Would anyone recommend New Carnegie Court in Hillhead? Online reviews are very mixed. Thanks

Not heard of it but my niece stayed in Spring Gardens for 2 years & liked it. Its a Unite complex. Rooms were a good size & it was quite sociable

It's been a few years since my DS was in Aberdeen Uni Accommodation, but new Carnegie was the most expensive I think and the one with the en-suites? I think the view amongst folk when he was there was that it tended to be the richer folk and the ones that ended up partying a lot.

I think as with anything, it can be the luck of the draw as to whether you get on well with your flatmates etc and that's probably what makes the most difference.

We didn't even look at that accommodation to be honest as it wasn't in budget.

I persuaded ds not to apply for New Carnegie. Instead he applied for Grant Court/Hector Boyce, which, instead of en suites had 2 loos amongst 5.

It was easy once he realised that the extra cost of the Nee Carnegie room would come directly out of his budget. Grin (ie he was getting a fixed amount, from which he would have to pay for whichever accommodation he chose). He'd thought that we would lay the extra Shock wasn't going to happen Wink

The other two disadvantages of New Carnegie (as pointed out by his cousin, who was 3 years ahead of him at Aberdeen) was that the extra room needed for the en suites meant that the communal space in the flat was even smaller and that having the en-suite meant that in some cases, flat mates didn't socialise as much (just stayed in their rooms).

I read somewhere too that there was sometimes a a problem with damp with the en-suites but not sure about that.

My DS lived there for his first year and loved it. He wasn't very worldly wise when he went and benefitted from having his own en suite - not too many shared housework tasks for him to (not bother to) pitch in with. Worth the extra £ for him and he met some great friends there.
