Scot Sex Ed - RSHP C Sections

Just been reading through the guidance for First Level Scot Sex Ed by RSHP and in the section on How a Baby is Born, no mention of C sections just vaginal birth. Googled it and around 35% of Scottish babies are now born by c-section. Both my kids know this is how they were born.

AIBU to think, this daft and (and possibly also a bit judgey 😡) to have excluded it?

I just think most children could cope with knowing some children are born by operation.

I just looked up the materials you refer to and have no issue with this. The learnings are for young primary aged kids and are a progression from learning about the human body. Schools cant teach everything and as you say, your children are already aware - but even if they werent, I dont think i ever learned about csections at school and to be honest, id be fine if my kids never did. I say this as a fellow csection mum.

I think you are tbh. Are you sensitive about having had the sections? Otherwise I'm not sure why teaching how the body works is an issue for you. There will be absolutely thousands of variations from the basic science children are taught and as they grow and develop they will learn more.

No, not sensitive about it at all. But when more than a third of children are born differently from the way they are presenting (and that percentage is likely to increase in coming years) it feels like worthy of at least a passing comment. Like they are only telling half he story.

I agree OP. It doesn’t take long to say ‘some babies are born like this, others like that’. Id be interested in the logic of excluding it.

DD is 4 knows that she and her sister were born by CS (in an age appropriate way). If she had a lesson without it being mentioned she’d either be confused, or ask the teacher about it when they might not be prepared.
