Help! Edinburgh

Hello

I stay within an hours drive of Edinburgh, but it's not somewhere I've been very often. I am looking to get married there in the summer. I would like to get married in the Edinburgh city chambers.

Do you know of anyone who has had a wedding there, or have you attended one there?

It will be a small scale wedding with only 20 people but we would like somewhere to go locally afterwards for a meal. A google Search just brings up so much and I'm not sure where to start 🤦🏽‍♀️

I don't like overly posh restaurants and we have a fair few children in the group so needs to be family friendly.

Ideally, I'd like somewhere with a private room, but equally I'm not overly bothered. Somewhere with a nice atmosphere and good quality food is all I need!

Please help with suggestions if you can ☺

Scotts kitchen is a 5min walk away, and available for private hire. Id probably go there for convenience. Good food, laid back, not posh. Congratulations! Wherever you pick, book asap!

Have a look at Howies Waterloo Place. Does private dining. Was nice when there years ago but not posh.

I went to a wedding there and we ate at Ondine. Probably too posh for what you want. I've been to private parties at Scott's kitchen and Howies. I'd probably choose Scott's kitchen as they're equal quality but it's much closer.

If you google you will find posts about other people's wedding and you can see where they went.

Think about the logistics before making any decisions, my sister got married in Glasgow, around an hour from our and most of the guests home. If most of your guests are from central Edinburgh ignore the rest.

She originally booked because is was a lovely registry office for nice pictures and green areas outside compared to our local registry office.

So we all got ready early, to make sure we got to the coach on time, which then left early to make sure we got to the registry office for their time slot. Then she had pictures at the venue and outside the venue which seemed to go on forever, so everyone the coach had to hang about there until that was done. It was a long day with all that hanging about, no where to get a drink (of water) or sit, we all just milled around outside (it was a bit chilly, but thankfully rain stayed off), by the time we got to the reception venue it felt like it had been a long slog of a day already.

You can see the crinkles on people dresses/trousers from sitting in a warm coach for an hour in the wedding photos.

Then the coaches home were later, so there were a few overtired children and parents.

She in hindsight regretted the decision to have so much travel within the day as logistically, even hiring coaches, it didn't work out as she envisaged.

Good luck with your planning!

I got married in Ediburgh City Chambers. Also had 20 people at the wedding! The lovely restaurant we ate at afterwards has sadly closed, but one we considered was Arcade Haggis and Whisky. They're still there, so I recommend checking them out.

My colleague got married in the city chambers then went to the signet library afterwards. It was very low key but looked amazing x

I got married in the old India Building and had 20 people - we chose Prestonfield House they had a small private dining room & a small bar next door — if you want somewhere with nice grounds & good for photos!
