Parking near Murrayfield

Have been to Murrayfield many times for concerts and usually stay in the city centre and just walk back in afterwards but need to be home that night so have no choice but to drive.
Can anyone recommend places to park nearby? Happy to pay for parking and happy to have a walk to the venue and back.

It’s for Taylor Swift if that makes a difference. I know it’s likely to be chaos with people travelling to be in parks etc around the stadium too!

How early can you get there? There are numerous park and rides in Edinburgh but they are all going to fill up as the day goes on.

Pootle40 · 19/03/2024 21:23

Depending on where you're coming from I'd be looking at a park and ride on the other side of the Queensferry crossing like ferrytoll park and ride or Halbeath. The issue you might have with say ingliston park and ride is it shuts at a particular time and you can't access your vehicle....

How about the P&R off the beginning of the A71 at Herriot Watt, there must be a bus that brings you down the western approach..?

Hermiston

@Aaron95 @Pootle40 Could realistically get there anytime from 12ish if necessary. Coming from the west coast and passing through Glasgow. How are the trains usually on concert nights? I’m assuming leaving the car in Glasgow and relying on getting the train back as far as Glasgow is asking for trouble?

Also looking at this, we will be lurking in Roseburn park but hoping to walk along water of Leith as far as we can 😬

Inyourwildestdreams · 20/03/2024 06:58

@Dabralor Yeah I’m not sure how far away is best to park 🙈 I’ll happy walk if it means not getting stuck in gridlocked traffic 🙈

Ingliston park and ride is open until 2am and the route between Murrayfield and Ingluston is the tram.

Hermiston park and ride is out by Heriot-Watt and you would get a bus from Balgreen Rd, which is a short walk from Murrayfield.

i work on the west side of the city and I'm struggling to think of any parking that isn't part of a supermarket/retail park where there are parking restrictions.

The traffic going west does tend to get pretty much gridlocked, which impacts the bus services, so I would tend to go for the tram routes - there is a exit but they are pretty well versed now in getting everyone on the tram and going west on the tram towards Ingliston is usually quieter than going into the city

There's loads of on street parking at bankhead industrial estate or gyle business park, right next to tram station, one stop along from hermiston. Trams get rammed at murryfield gigs though but it's walkable, probably 30 mins, there's a walking/cycle path most of way.

What day of the week are you coming? If it's a week day then your options are a bit more limited as there's permit parking on the streets in most areas. But on a weekend you could maybe try around Craigleith / North side of Ravelston which are an easy walk into Murrayfield. On match days there's some cones out on the closest streets but if you go far enough away you'd probably get a space early. A bit further but Carrington Road, Fettes Ave, East Fettes Avenue are also a good option at weekends as there's no residential properties along those roads and loads of spaces.

Thanks all! I’ll look into all your suggestions. We’re going on a Sunday. Driving from the west coast, through Glasgow.

I would consider parking at Livingston, Bathgate or even the Gyle train station and getting the train in. When you leave Murrayfield, as odd as it sounds, I’d walk past Haymarket and onto Waverley and get the train back out from there. Possibly quicker than waiting on trains at Haymarket which will be full. Or, get the train from Haymarket into Waverley and then back out again. Trams will be bedlam but it might work going into Edinburgh and then coming back out again. The tram will could work well but it depends where you are seated or standing and how quickly you can get out.

I would stay well clear of St John’s Road/Corstorphine. That will be gridlocked.

While the Ingliston park and ride/tram option seems like a good idea, you may not get parked unless you're hours early, and it will definitely be a long wait on a tram back. Don't even think about trying to park close to Murrayfield, you'll struggle to, and there are lots of parking restrictions in the city.
Consider getting the train, either from Glasgow or a station nearer to Edinburgh. Get off at Haymarket and walk or tram it (if you can get on) from there, then do the reverse journey on the way back (prob walking). Check Trainline for the last train back though, they stop a bit earlier on Sundays, so it might not work.

Failing that, I second Permanentlyunimpressed's suggestion, park on the outskirts (not in a retail park) and bus or walk in. Be prepared to walk back though.

@Inyourwildestdreams You can book parking spaces through parking apps , which includes private houses, supermarket car parks. It looks as if you're too late now to book at Sainsbury's which is the nearest but this is what is still bookable for 8 June on the Just Park app.
