University fees

I am a Scot currently living in England with a DC at a Scottish University. I’m mid split up & am thinking to use my proceeds to move back to Scotland. DC happy to move in with me which will save the cost of their rent, but what will their fee situation be, could anyone advise?

Off the top of my head you have to have had your main residence in Scotland for three years to quality for the free fees I think ( could be two but I think it's three).

Thanks.

"In general, to be eligible for home fee status and student support, including free tuition, student loans, bursaries, and grants, students must have a ‘relevant connection’ with Scotland. This means they must be ‘settled’ in the UK and ‘ordinarily resident’ in Scotland on the ‘relevant date’. They must also have lived in the UK for the three years immediately before this date."

I think the problem will be more the status of your dc when they started uni and if that can subsequently change mid course.

I have a feeling it doesn't. but probably best to speak to SAAS to be sure.

I think you'll need to contact SAAS about this.
As PP has said they need to be ordinarily resident in Scotland before starting university and not moved here for education.
Your issue is your DC has already moved to Scotland solely to attend university so I don't think it will now matter whether they live with you or not. It is likely based on their status when they started uni but always worth contacting them

Oh I got the three year thing wrong.
Worth asking the uni just in case you can save a year or two of fees.
It's not a situation I have come across on forums before.

Thanks all. I’m not trying to steal a march, just though it worth looking into….there are always extenuating circumstances I guess, so I’ll take your advice and contact the relevant authorities.

As a pp said, it might be a problem that the university accepted them as an English student, and they pay considerably more in fees. There is a quota of Scots students, which possibly has been used up on their course, it seems quite possible that you can’t switch status. You should ask the university as the contract for tutorial fees is between them and student finance
