Which council areas do 1/2 day finish on Friday?

Thinking of moving for work, and trying to weigh up pro's and con's.

I know some councils (Edinburgh, East/West Lothian) do 1/2 day Fridays - but is that all? Are there others?

I will need childcare so it's an important factor.

All secondary schools in highland shut half day on a Friday but only some primary schools do. However not all primaries have after school clubs.

If you're googling OP put in "asymmetric week" as that's what it's usually called. To make the point I suppose that the week isn't any shorter, it's just distributed differently.

There's a privately run friday afternoon childcare club at dc's primary. I think finding childcare would be easier than arranging your entire move around this - especially as it could change while you lived there!

Primary schools in east and south Ayrshire do full days mon-fridays only secondary schools do half days on Friday. They do extra hours on Monday/Tuesdays to make up the hours.

It's a public sector job you're after, Fridays are POETS days - piss off early tomorrow's Saturday
You shouldn't have aproblem where ever you work

Not all Perth & Kinross Schools do - I'd not heard of any until someone mentioned Kinross upthread. So I wouldn't rule out that area.

Most councils will say in their website what the school hours are as well as term dates.

Stirling, Clackmannanshire and Falkirk don’t currently but as noted by PP Falkirk is considering and Stirling’s budget consult mentioned changes to school days. If they change then Clacks would likely too (followed stirling in changing to 2 weeks on Oct recently).

I’d seriously reconsider choosing a whole new area to live in based on this criteria as the councils can change it without much notice and many areas are looking to change so you could move and suddenly find Fridays aren’t full school days. If I were you I’d look at the area you prefer then adapt for school days (clubs, afterschool childminder, flexi working, free time at home alone for kdis when older, etc)

Not my secondary in Perth, it is a surprise to me that some do however saying that I recall an email not so long ago from our school saying they would be doing a consultation on hours soon.

I would agree with the other posters that even if schools have a full Friday now it's by no means guaranteed to last. Council funding is tight and they can save money by shortening the school days. As one of the posters mentioned upthread they only have to provide 25 hrs teaching and fit in some lunch time. I'd be quite curious to know who makes the decisions about school days and times as they seem to vary quite a bit.

East Lothian does half days on Friday. It drives me mad - drop my P2 kid at 8.50 and I’m back at 11.50 to collect.
