Where to live in Glasgow?

I'm looking for houses in Glasgow and my budget is £250k. I was wondering which good/safe areas would be affordable for me, if any? The ones I've looked at are Paisley, Robroyston and Glenboig North in Lanarkshire, Muirhead, Bishopton and Katewell Avenue. Ideally I wouldn't want to be too far from city centre but safety and just not living anywhere rough is a priority.

How awful that chains are a thing now! Eek. That said I discussed it with a solicitor buddy and she said that with the properties she deals with (high end) the sellers often impose a deadline for conclusion of missives ( which include fixed completion date) of a month or less so it's put up or get lost. Most people I know who've sold recently have rented for a bit after so are able to move quickly to buy.
Seems like a sellers market still in some areas and price brackets.
I wish we'd move to the Spanish system. There there are financial penalties imposed on parties pulling out.

I dont really understand how it works at all because in England the sale is completed only at the end so any party can pull out at any time whereas I keep hearing different versions of how it's done in Scotland

if you're just looking to be within 30-60 mins of Glasgow you could look at areas like Dumbarton as well. does depend what you really want - size of house, amenities locally, feel of the local area, schools, etc.

Admittedly it's 26 (Shock) years since I last bought in Scotland but ds has just bought his first place and a few of my friends at the rugby club have bought houses/flats.

In our and ds' experience (and the impression I got from my friends), it's not so much that there is a chain but that each link is complete so you don't notice it.

Ds offered at the end of July, had it accepted the same day (without it going to a closing date) and moved in the middle of September. So the process is much quicker in Scotland.

The flat was empty though.

If it goes to a closing date, then usually you'll state the date that you expect to complete in the bid that you make (although you can say that it's flexible).

Once missives are concluded, it's very difficult to get out of the sale. But as a previous poster has said, it's now much more common for missives to be concluded only a few days before completion Hmm

I've also bought and sold in England ( MANY years ago Blush) and the process was much more stressful.

God just head for Troon. On the beach, half an hour to Glasgow, decent schools, much less rain than Glasgow!

Marr isn't the great school that it once was.

The 2 Legal systems are much the same now and there are definitely chains
i regularly deal with high value properties and they tend to have the longest chains
OP if I was you I would rent first to get a feel for the area
also puts you know in a good position as your Offer won’t be subject to sale

As above. Lenzie/ Kirkintilloch have good schools . It’s 10 minutes on the train into central Glasgow, and 20 minutes on the bus.
Parts of Kirkintilloch can be rough but Lenzie is pretty leafy.
Feels like you are between town and country
