I have the chance to escape the day to day - demanding kids, elderly parents, stressful job and toxic xh for about 5 days over Easter. Absolutely love Scotland and plan to retire there one day once free of ties.
I can get pretty cheap flights into Edinburgh or Glasgow

What I would like: cute seaview cottage, local sea swim opportunities, some yoga classes, craft classes [fit Scottish man...........]

I've seen quite a bit of Fife and From Edinburgh up to Broughty Ferry

Was thinking of going further up this coast?

Or West Coast

Will hire a car

*Unless you need to go past the rest and be thankful and then you don’t pass anywhere!

Never been to Mull, can you guess what stopped me!*

You don't have to go via the Rest, you can go via Tyndrum.

Since you’re flying, I’d fly higher up to Inverness and then head west.

Wow, so much to think about, like Mull!!

I've had a look and its a fair old bit of onward travel from Glasgow, seems to be about 4.5 hours, as I sadly have only a few days free I don't want to spend too much of that travelling, but Mull is definitely on the list for another, perhaps more out of season too

If I ever ended up on holiday there, I'd be very disappointed!

Oban is only 2 hours drive from Glasgow Airport, longer by public transport granted.

I always find Arran a bit meh compared to Mull.

The Galloway part of Dumfries and Galloway? Kirkudnright and surrounding areas. A million times less tourists than up the west coast/the islands as evidenced by the above. It’s called “Scotland in miniature” it has lochs, hills, upland, moorland, pasture, forestry, a stunning long coast line and most importantly peace and quiet. Kircudbright it known as the artists town because the light is special, plenty of activities because of a very active friendly retirement community, art, craft, sports, stunning walks and you can swim in Brighouse Bay (I'm assuming you’re bringing a wet suit you’ll need one) it has a huge tidal range but is a lovely sandy beach. I have friends who do yoga. But of all you’re not shoulder to shoulder with other tourists. PM me if you want details of yoga classes etc.
You don’t need to fly take the train to Dumfries and hire a car there.

Mull is a lot of driving for a short holiday. Sorry I can tell you guys love it but it is.

SorrowsPrayers · 26/01/2024 19:12

Glencoe area. About 2.5 hours fro Glasgow. Blooming wonderful.
Or Ardnamurchan...quieter than Mull but just as lovely.

Second vote for West Kilbride for the craft village thing.

Opposite direction than you've asked for but East Lothian is beautiful - north Berwick and Dunbar both have train stations from Edinburgh and lots of beautiful beaches.

Alternatively for the direction you asked for Durness and Ullapool (and the journey in between) are stunning and wild

Kirkcudbright - as you can see from above,
it’s very hard to spell 😁

My friend has travelled just about everywhere on Scotland (leads guided wilderness walks) and was absolutely raving about Arran the other day. I’d never been that fussed about going before (I think it’s the potato-ish shape vs the intriguing wibbly wobbly-ness of the other islands) but now it’s at the top of my bucket list.
