Have been catching up on the report into Scottish Education and am really quite shocked
Another failure of the SNP government

What needs to be done to turn this around

Funny how people who blame Tatcher don’t look back to the state the country was in the 1970s.

It is all very well blaming the Tories but why has education in Scotland dropped consistently since the SNP introduced curriculum for excellence whereas this is not the case in England where Tories policies have been implemented? Why are drug deaths nearly three times the UK average? Why is life expectancy more than two years longer in England when public spending per person is 20% higher in Scotland?

They rolled out 1140 hours to 3-5 year olds without funding it properly. Not enough per hour to private nurseries to help pay their staff a decent wage. Expecting schools to go to full time hours without extra staffing, extra resources. The staff turnover in both LA and Private Nurseries has been higher than I have ever known it to be. Staff in the sector are burnt out. M

Many school nurseries are not set up to have different rooms for quiet time or a dedicated sleep room. What you get is QIO's who haven't been in nursery for years telling you expectations and the paperwork is ridiculous. Some days you feel you aren't just sitting down with your children and spending time with them. It's all targets instead of your nursery meeting the needs of your community.

I’m Scottish and recently moved my kids from a bog standard English primary to the local school in Scotland. Class sizes are the same as at our previous school in England but here there doesn’t seem to be the system of having a TA in the class with the teacher (as we did in England). My kids have been quite far ahead of the Scottish curriculum, I don’t know if it all evens out in the end. It’s quite hard to talk about the differences to locals here because there’s def a bit of ‘oh but we get free prescriptions.’ Yes but I pay more income tax here, pay almost double the council tax I did and the land/property purchase tax on the place we are buying is almost double! Is it being spent on education?

No it’s being wasted on SNP financial incompetence
