On track primary education question

Can any Scottish teachers explain how a child can be "on track" with regards to education when their spelling age has been assessed as 12 months younger than chronological age?

On track to finish the year way behind? Or have parameters now been set so low that we deem this acceptable?

Genuinely struggling to understand and not much clarification given via school except DD is "on track"

Background. I have raised concerns regarding spelling since P2 now P4. Being monitored to see if she needs dyslexia screen. But information fed back thus far is that even with a dyslexia diagnosis she wouldn't qualify for additional support as she's not at a low enough level

Thanks

Sorry I have no help to offer am interested in the answers. I also have a child who is behind on spelling despite being in top literacy group. I'm concerned about the 'on track' also. The parameters are so wide they seem almost meaningless or redundant.

The windows for on track are 2 years wide are they not? Totally meaningless. You could ask the school straight out where they sit in the class / school / region / country if they have recently done any national tests but even when schools have this (useful) data they rarely give it to you.

The first point in my kids school career when I got meaningful data as to whether they were bright or not was when they did their Nat 5 prelims. I’m baffled as to why schools are reluctant to be upfront about this as it’s vital in guiding them towards suitable careers.

It should mean that they are on track to achieve "first level" of the Curriculum for Excellence by the end of P4. If she has dyslexia which affects her spelling that doesn't necessarily mean she isn't achieving all the other benchmarks. You can access the documents which outline the benchmarks on the Education Scotland website.
