Where do the older crowd (40+) go for a night out in Glasgow?

Shamelessly copying from a similar but London-based thread....

Where are fun, grown up, not clubby or too young places in Glasgow centre?

Looking for an after dinner venue for both a date night and a girls' night.

Would like a seat and would love some live music but mostly don't want to feel old or out of place.

Thanks.

Can't go wrong with Horseshoe Bar

AgentProvocateur · 17/11/2023 19:34

Horseshoe bar was stinking of pee (the downstairs bar) last time I was there.

For date night, I’d go to Malo in Bothwell St or the Kelvingrove Cafe in Finnieston.

Me and dh were just talking about this earlier. We're in Glasgow for a couple nights in a fortnight for a gig and have absolutely no clue where to go anymore as we left 10 years ago and normally only ever come back with the dc.

We've returned once without kids and spent the night before/after gig at sleazys and next day in spoons. Fine but not exactly making the most of it.

My time in Glasgow was spent very much in old man pubs in the southside horseshoe, sammie dows, heraghtys etc so I'm NOT remotely fussy, but central horseshoes always been a heap of shit.

I'm not really bothered about food but I'd like food that doesn't go to waste (small portion) but decent food for dh.

God I miss the days of grabbing whatever has the cheapest drinks on/will let you in and chips and cheese on the way home, so much simpler.

Scotia, clutha, mcsorleys, the woods, howlin wolf.

Finnieston, always feels like it’s for my age group. Glasgows lost it sparkle lately for going out

Okay so parking the horseshoe...

Yes to Malo, Devil of Brooklyn, Tabac, Citizen, Fonn Mor. New Platform One bar looks nice.

Great thanks everyone.

Any experiences of Blue Dog? It's apparently an NYC style piano bar with live music. It's been around a while but I'd never heard of it. Thanks.

I used to go to Blue Dog a lot before Covid and it was a good place to go when the pubs shut. I can’t remember the whole story, but I think they were one of the places that were awful to staff in Covid, so we never went back.

Ugh id rather stay at home than go to the Horseshoe. It's a dump

Poachedeggs1 · 27/11/2023 12:49

I’d avoid the city centre like the plague. Head to Finnieston or West End area. Lots of nice places to eat/drink

gawditswindy · 27/11/2023 20:54

In town Smokin Fox. The Citizen but it's ££. Stereo. I tend to go West too though.

Depends what you want from a night out. I like to be able to talk to friends without incredibly loud music so for us it's The Bon Accord, State Bar, the Three Judges or somewhere up Byres Road. Just depends what you want to do.
