Apologies for the source but is anyone else beyond disgusted with those currently running the UK?

I knew they had no humanity over the plight of those living in Gaza but I just cannot understand how people can vote for such right wing racists.

Rishi vows Rwanda flights WILL go ahead after court ruling

At a press conference in No10, the PM pledged a new treaty with the country and said Parliament will declare that it is safe for asylum seekers.

I agree. Nothing to add, but absolutely agree.
I thought the UK was proud to protect the human rights. And now the leader of the country denouncing a major organisation (of which the UK is member of) protecting human rights.
Unbelievable.

I think yabu and they need to proceed with this plan to get a handle on illegal immigration.

SaffronSpice · 16/11/2023 00:54

They could try flying them to Scotland, repopulate the highlands in line with the SNP proposals, but for some reason illegal immigrants don’t want to stay here.

RosaCaramella · 16/11/2023 03:23

If they go through with this, what’s to stop them sending other people they don’t want to deal with to Rwanda…

Even if this is illegal? Because the point is, the plan was deemed illegal and our very clever PM said even if it is deemed being against human rights, they still want to go ahead with it.
Is this what you follow in your real life too? If there's no other solution, you just do something illegal? Like, if you want a new car, but you don't have money for it, you steal someone's? Is that reasonable for you?

EasternStandard · 16/11/2023 07:42

You’ll find it’s not just this gov other EU countries are or will look to do the same

SaffronSpice · 16/11/2023 08:47

Even if this is illegal?

Governments make the law, courts simply implement them. So if something is illegal, the government can try to pass a law making it legal. If the population don’t like it then they can vote for a different government.

Well that's certainly a very convenient stance for those who want to circumvent the law.

What are you on about? That is how democracies work.

Ineedaholiday23 · 16/11/2023 17:45

Please educate yourself @SaffronSpice . There are unaccompanied minors in the Highlands, whose families have been murdered by The Taliban (who worked for and then we're abandoned by the UK Government).

Changing the law on a whim whenever convenient? Yes, sure, that's how cowboy democracies work. Mature democracies respect their laws. I'm not saying they never change them.
I understand how the three layers work, you don't have to explain it to me.

Edited

Parliaments are legislative bodies - they spend their time changing laws, all the time. They do this in mature democracies and immature democracies. That is how governments govern. In mature democracies they hold debates around the subject, they consider downsides, parliamentarians rebel against their parties to vote for or against bills they consider good or bad.

In immature democracies debate is stifled, opponents are told their opinions are not valid, parliamentary time is curtailed, committee witness are selected to predominantly support the government from government funded organisations, parliamentarians are heckled with shouts of ‘shame’ for meeting protestors, responses to consultations are not publish or are deemed ‘outwith the scope’, police are used to shut down public discussion, parliamentarians are required to pledge to never disagree with their party leadership, politicians are whipped through unpopular votes, parliamentarians claim they will be harmed if forced to sharing corridors with those with differing opinions, and the abuse of parliamentarians with differing opinions is never condemned.
