Hello,

First world problems, but looking for some tips… we are a family of 5 and looking for a ski holiday that is family friendly, flying from Scottish airport. Any tips appreciated.

How old are your children and have they been skiing before?

Norway is fairly popular around us as its beginner friendly short runs but can easily fly direct to.

Crystalski offer packages from Edinburgh and Jet2 and easyjet fly to Geneva which opens up a lot of options either in France or Austria.

I think it depends on what your looking for so self catered, hotel or chalet and are you wanting childcare options or not.

Thank you, Yes, we’ve all ski’d a few times before, but only in the Nordics and now looking at France, Italy…
seems so much choice and hard to narrow down.
we’re at an intermediate level so not looking for black runs or anything extreme. Just something fairly relaxed, not too large a resort, preferably ski in - ski out.

Aviemore? 😂

😄 if we could be guaranteed the snow then I’d consider it!

So a relaxed family resort which is good snow but also has a toboggan for the kids is Montgenevre. Its quite high but is also just over the French border with Italy so tends to be a bit cheaper food and slopes wise (as the Italians wouldn't pay it!) Mostly self catering and isn't ski in ski out really but you can be just across the road from the slopes.

I would also look at La Plagne and Alp du Huez. There are a lot of other activities in Alp du Huez for families.
Italy tends to be apartments or hotels not chalets in most places. But Italy the slopes are much more reasonably priced then France. Also found Italian slopes good for piste bashing and nice cruisey runs. Downside they can be less snow sure.

Avoid Chamonix - it's spread out and is geared a lot more to off piste and expert level

Some areas of 3 Vallees would fit but its a very large area and expensive lift pass but is snow sure for a lot of it.

If it's a good season then La Clusaz is also very friendly but is much lower down at 1100m.
Les Gets is a lot quieter then Morzine but again lower down, Avoriaz is also popular.

Sestriere
Alpe D'Huez
Flaine
Morzine
La Plagne

The Spanish pyrenees are a good shout usually much cheaper than French alps etc

La Clusaz is great. We stay in St Jean de Sixt and then take the free ski bus to either La Clusaz or Grand Bornand depending on the day and availability of ski school. But as someone else said it is lower so not quite as snow sure as higher resorts. But it snowed this weekend so fingers crossed for a good season.

Les Gets in France is very geared towards families. It has a lovely, quaint atmosphere.

Cervinia in Italy is nice. Pizza and good intermediate skiing. Fly to Turin or Milan.

We’ve been to Les Gets every year for the past 5 years. It’s a wonderful resort and perfect for beginners. It’s about 1 hour 40 from Geneva.
