...within an hour, hour and a half drive from Kilmarnock.

It's our wedding anniversary next week and I'm looking for somewhere for one night, dinner, bed and breakfast. I've looked at loads but nothing is inspiring me. Can't be in Glasgow because LEZ and it's an expensive pita to take public transport from our semi rural house. Does anyone know of a hidden gem I've missed?

What about a night in Edinburgh? Drive to the park n ride and tram to the city centre?

We lived in Edinburgh for over 20 years, prefer somewhere new. (Though I did think about the Witchery...)

Doune - the Woodside, owned by same people as Allan park but much nicer I feel the Allan park is a bit tired and lacks atmosphere especially recently. There is also medowpark, lots of lovely places in bridge of Allan too.

Similar menu too, in with a shout!

There are some nice places in Pitlochry which is easily accessible by public transport.

Happy to drive (prefer it!) but much as I love Perthshire in the spring/summer, not so keen in November.

It's definitely more than 1.5hrs away but the Marine Hotel in Brora is lovely. We love great food and it was brilliant. Beautiful area too.

The Lodge at Dumfries House. Beautiful rooms.

Totally agree (we've been there) and we have a lovely local friend. But it's a very long drive for one night!

I looked at that last night (have stayed there before and liked it) but they only seem to have a suite available the night I want, and that seems a bit ott.o

Have a look on itison and Google ayrshire then glasgow. Some fantastic deals for hotels with dinner.

Premier Inn at Fort William was nice. Not sure if that's anywhere near we here you want to be. You could go the steam train across Harry Potter viaduct.

Maybe too late but we had a lovely break at the Inn on Loch Tummel. Really friendly, fabulous food, different rooms with cosy fires to coorie up with a book.

And a huge, deep bath with plenty of hot water!
