They changed the process this year. For crappy and not pro child reasons.

Have you heard of any kids getting an appeal? I've heard of one. One?!

I have a very disappointed niece who missed out on a grade by 1 mark. Prelim marks were great. Appeal denied

Same @Kinneadar. Poor kids

Submitted 14 for my subject (English) across N5 and Higher. Only 1 was successful.

I work for SQA and mostly the reason for appeals not being upheld is the school not being able to provide sufficient evidence to back up the appeal.

Wow that's a massive reduction in the average chance of success eh? It's almost like they can't be arsed helping the kids succeed.

This year they didn't look at evidence. The process has changed?

Sorry yes you are right (don’t worry I don’t work in that department!). Last year was the year the evidence provided was shocking, so I bet that’s why it was changed this year.

dumdededdumdum · 31/10/2023 19:48

Such a knee jerk and I'll thought out reaction to poor evidence. Naturally the covid years would've created some poor evidence creation and that would probably have settled down. The only casualties of this are the poor kids who also suffered lack of education from covid then they shaft them again like this. I believe they've just found a way to eliminate work/ reduce costs and appease someone. The teachers didn't even publicise the exceptional circumstances route in our school.

There is no exceptional circumstances like last year. We are back to 2019 in that evidence can be sent if a pupil misses all or part of a paper, or has a bereavement etc.

There is no option to do like last year and send in evidence to provide a different grade from that awarded in the exam.

We had a couple who were unwell. They needed evidence from a Dr. Then we had to send academic evidence away within about a week of the exam day.
