Looking for hotel and dinner recommendations for one child free night to celebrate 2 big birthdays and anniversary midweek.
Where would you go?

Kimpton Blythswood Square

Kimpton Blythswood Square

My brother stayed there and complained about the street noise... It's an old building and the boy racers put the sound proofing to the test

Would that be an issue on a weekday night?

Kimpton Blythswood Square

Thank you! Would you recommend dinner there or elsewhere?

Can also recommend the Kimpton. We didn’t have dinner there but the breakfast was the best I’ve ever had in a hotel, and it’s a short walk to the centre of town. Didn’t have any issues with sound at night and we were there on a Friday.

Hotel du Vin? With dinner at the Bothy or Ox & Finch? I like the West End, with easy tube into the centre.

crumpet · 26/10/2023 10:11

The Alamo Guest House was really lovely and comfortable, and in terms of restaurants The Gannet is also on my list.

NotFastButFurious · 26/10/2023 10:20

I read it as you wanted dinner at the hotel but if you're wanting to eat elsewhere then that maybe opens up more options for hotels as they often don't have the best restaurants.

Phonedown · 26/10/2023 10:22

I would also be more tempted into the west end than the city centre. Whilst the Blythswood is a lovely hotel it's location is a bit meh... The city centre is looking pretty grubby at the moment. I'd stay at Hotel du Vin and eat at one of the fantastic restaurants in Finnieston area or head into Ashton Lane and eat at The Ubiquitous Chip and have some post dinner drinks in Brel or even wander along to Oran Mor.

Phonedown · 26/10/2023 10:24

You could even eat in Brel actually - especially if you love Moules Frite, Raclette and Chocolate fondue.

Phonedown · 26/10/2023 10:25

Pre dinner you could have a wander around Kelvingrove museum and/or Kelvingrove Park.

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 26/10/2023 10:27

I stayed at the Dakota in the city centre and their cocktails were fab, was during covid so had restrictions but the bar was lovely.

I like ka pao for food in the west end if you like Asian fusion.

AgentProvocateur · 26/10/2023 10:28

I’d stay at Dakota, go to Gloriosa and/or Ox & Finch for lunch, then eat in dakota at night and fall upstairs to your very comfortable bed.

The restaurant is good, but is fish heavy.

Depending on your budget and attendees Piccolo Mondo is nice and not hugely expensive. Fanny Trollope's in Finnieston too.

The Dakota has really good reviews but is pricey.

BelleEtoile · 26/10/2023 11:17

Thank you so much. Lots of great suggestions. I'm not familiar with the city at all, more so with the country side around it.
Good to know about the westend. I would have naturally gravitated towards the city centre.
I'm really looking forward to it.

I too would stay at The Dakota or possibly Malmasion. For dinner my recommendations will probably not be what you're looking for as we don't really enjoy fine dining and prefer a relaxing atmosphere. But The Red Onion on West Campbell Street is great, smallish menu but done excellently and the staff are great, Elia Greek restaurant at George Square, The Spanish Butcher on Miller Street. Or we'd go for an Indian as the best Indian food we've had has been in Glasgow.

If you go to the cosmo world buffet in the st Enoch centre you can have a robot bring out birthday cake singing to you! Seriously who cares about fancy food when you are being sung to by a robot! 😂 a few of my friends like staying at the radisson red or the hotel in central station.

BelleEtoile · 26/10/2023 11:35

We are not looking for silver service fine dining (that day is gone). We are just hoping for a nice really tasty dinner (somewhere you wouldn't bring children), a cocktail and a full nights sleep.
I think I'm looking forward to sleep most 🙃

Dakota or Radisson Red to stay and either the Butchershop or the Ox and Finch for eating.

BelleEtoile · 29/10/2023 01:53

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've booked Dakota. We are really looking forward to it.
