Hi,

I would really appreciate your opinions on Ayrshire.

I'm a single mum of 2 Children under the age of 5yrs. I'm originally from the NW of England but currently living down South. I am now looking to relocate and find our home.

I did look at moving back to the NW, but i think that's more out of it being familiar and if I'm going to move then I'm really wanting to be sure that it's to a place that best meets our needs.

So, I'm looking to move to an area that has a friendly community. Being able to drive to the city is a bonus but is prefer to be in a town/rural location.

I've heard that some parts of Ayrshire can be a little rough so would rather avoid these parts but i don't mind moving to an area that's having investment as i read about Maybole.

I am a nurse, although i also do holistic therapies, i do have a bit of a hippy vibe and would need childcare for a few days a week. It's been a really tough few years for my children and i would really love to find a place that we can call home.

I cannot say about Maybole.
A lot of the valley areas of east Ayrshire, auchinleck, cumnock, muirkirk - former mining areas with deprivation and ... Challenges.
Likewise areas of Kilmarnock and the three towns Ardrossan, saltcoats and Stevenson.
West Kilbride and seamill could be sort of hippyish and would like to see itself as very community based. There have been a lot of good grass roots ideas there. Largs has a lot of community but hippy it is not. (A nice place to live though).

I moved to South Ayrshire during lockdown from Glasgow. I am on the coast close to Maybole. I go to Maybole for the supermarket, post office, vet etc. The Main Street itself seems a bit tired but there are certainly nicer bits.

My perception of Maybole before I moved here was that it was quite deprived. This opinion was formed while driving through the Main Street en route to the ferry (road quieter now thanks to the new bypass).

Maybole itself is quite a vast area and outside the town itself it is home to some of the grandest houses and farms. I think the catchment area for the school is quite wide. I don’t have school age children so can’t comment further.

I love living in South Ayrshire. It has exceeded all of my expectations. The countryside is beautiful and there are some beautiful villages like Straiton.

It would also be an easy commute to the hospitals in Ayr and Girvan.

I certainly wouldn’t dismiss it. Short drive to the beach, Culzean Country Park, great walks etc.

The new school complex is nearing completion and incorporates a news sports complex, swimming pool and cafe. There is also a new private housing estate going up.

Worth looking into further I think. It is certainly more than a tired town centre.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to write all of that. It really is useful to have the opinions of people who are living in the area.
