Any recommendations would be very welcome. We like all kinds of food, would prefer an independent local restaurant rather than a chain. Thank you!

With or without kids? Price range?

ThalattaThalatta · 16/07/2023 08:03

Without kids. Flexible on price- we’re there for a few days so might do a more expensive place one day and a cheaper one the next. Thank you!

Browns on George Square is nice, or the Anchor Line.

Howlin Wolf has great live music. Ubiquitous Chip is you want to push the boat out.

My go to place in Glasgow when I have a few hours until my train leaves (West Highland line, there aren't many trains) is Non Viet at the end of Sauchiehall, but I do love big bowls of Pho and also summer rolls, they also do an awesome avocado smoothie and their homemade lemonade is great.

La Vita Sputini. Our favourite restaurant. There's one outside central station, and one on George's square. X

Brett on great western road. Officially a wine bar, but the food is superb. Not cheap. You have to book if you’re more than 2. Combine with a few hours in Kelvingrove and you’ve got a brilliant Glasgow day.

La Lanterna - Italian family run restaurant on Hope Street directly opposite Glasgow central - not cheap but won’t break the bank either.

Chickenfeed67 · 16/07/2023 09:50

Mother India - amazing curry!

Some of these suggestions are not in the centre, so just be aware that some are merchant city or west end

Scamp is a new fish based restaurant not far from central station.

I second Ting Thai caravan. ‘

’Babs is great too, but you can’t book that. It’s walk ins only.

Thank you so much for all these suggestions! I am googling them now. Really appreciate it.

I like cafe gandolfi, babs, koolba and the Italian cafe. These are all city centre.

Elia Greek Restaurant - good wine list and makes me feel like I'm on my hols
Moskito - can be noisy but fun for people watching

Those two are very central

If you don't mind travelling a bit then Celentanos on the east side is amazing.

West end ish:
Brett (already mentioned)
No 16 (Byres Rd) favourite for a cosy and very good meal
Eusabi - Italian
Ox and Finch
