Hello,

Posting this on behalf of my mum who will be travelling to Stirling in August.

They will be taking grandchildren (DGS5 & DGD10), they're hoping to book into Blair Drummond Safari Park but we've been told there's a bike race that will be taking place near so we're preparing for the possibility it may not be open.

Aside from Stirling Castle. Are there any must see areas, places, things to do or even travel (max 30 minutes in car) to do whilst they're there? 🙂

They're staying in the area of Clackmannan, FK10.

Thank you very much!

The Falkirk Wheel/Kelpies. Both on the same site but a fair distance between them.

Wallace monument.

Doune Castle.

Also the Stirling Jail. Possibly the Bannockburn visitor Centre.

Muiravonside country park. It's near maddiston.l in the Falkirk area. It has a farm with lots of animals, a play park and cafe and loads of walks. You don't need to book. The Falkirk Wheel has activities for children which do need to be booked. King's Park in Stirling is lovely and has tennis courts. The Kelpies and Helix park has a man made lake and some activities. Kilsyth has a dressing up place called Kiltoonies. The children might be too old for this.

Briarlands Farm is fun and you can pick your own berries. Iron the same road as Blair Drummond. Wallace Monument is good. Smith Gallery and museum is nice (small but fun) if the weather turns. If the weather is good ice cream at the Allan Water Cafe and a paddle in the Allan Water in Bridge of Allan.

If they are in Stirling when the time trial is on lots of roads will be closed not just the castle.

Depending on the age of the kids it might be worth going to Glasgow for the day and taking them to the transport museum and science centre

If they like Harry Potter there is a shop (The Lonely Broomstick) in Falkirk which does hour long potion workshops. My mum, my then 4 year old and my 8 year old absolutely loved it.

Helix park & callendar park. Mariner Centre has a good leisure pool with wave machine and there's a tenpin bowling next door. Sky high trampoline park or Cineworld Falkirk for a wet day. There's a nice little independent cinema in bones, the hippodrome. Also the steam railway museum in Boness.

Drive to park & ride at Ingleston and Tram into Edinburgh.
Second the transport museum and science centre in Glasgow too.
Stirling area is a good base to travel to the other cities in the central belt.

Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh would be good for both ages and adults too.
The Peak in Stirling has pool, rock wall, gym etc.
Kidz World in Alloa has softplay and cafe.
