I have been looking at properties in Girvin South Ayrshire and wondering if this area is a good place to live any thought 🤔

Most South Ayrshire towns could do with a bit of a facelift tbh but there are nice beaches nearby and you're not too far from Glasgow. Property tends to be cheaper. So if you don't have to think about schools then it's not the worst place to live.

Ok thanks for the info I will have a look at a couple of other areas as well not too sure yet which ones.

I lived there until a few years ago. I would never move back. I only moved 20 miles up the road but it is like another planet. There is a community group that plan things for the town, wickerman festival, dancing on the prom etc, however they are mostly Girvan born and bred. The schools are okay and there is a youth trust called Z1 which organises trips and activities for youngsters, but there is a very large scheme, high levels of deprivation, lots of empty shops and delapitated buildings and a lot of substance abuse issues. That said it does have the most stunning coastal views and fabulous golf courses, however if you're looking at properties, there is a reason they are so affordable.

The best thing about Girvan (apart from the road out of it) is the Indian restaurant.

Dumfries and galloway is probably nicer but transport connections are dire.

I worked in Girvan for about 2 years. It is a nice enough town but is very isolated. Some of the other towns in the area are pretty grim though. Old mining towns which have major unemployment and little prospects given how far they are from anywhere offering employment prospects.

Most people I worked with were from Girvan or Dailly and rarely went anywhere. Girvan may only be about half an hour by car from Ayr but most people had only been there a few times in their lives. They seemed astonished if I ever went to Glasgow for a day. This was over 10 years ago so it may have improved since then, I don't really know.

There is a train station which takes you to Ayr but the trains are only every 2 hours. In the other direction it goes to Stranraer but unless you are getting a ferry there is nothing to see there.

If you are happy to live in a 1 supermarket town then Girvan is OK but be prepared for a small town where people have lived their entire lives and everyone knows everyone else..
