Relocation advice- D&G to Inverness area

Hello,

We are trying to relocate from Dumfries and Galloway up to Inverness. My sister lives Strathpeffer so would be great to be near her, but I need to get the train to Aberdeen once a week (sometimes more/less) for work.

Can anyone please share advice for awesome areas to move, up to an hour from Inverness? There are only so many places you can see on visits!! Ideal is on the edge of a town or rural. We have 2 kids (P3 and P7 in new school year) to get to school who would be quite happy in a little school (there are 36 kids in their primary school now).

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed as everyone keeps telling me how hard it is to relocate to the Highlands because of property still selling so fast. So any words of wisdom from anyone who has relocated before would be appreciated too.

Thanks 😊

It really depends what you are looking for. Nairn is nice and on the route to Aberdeen. All secondary schools in tend to be fairly large in the Highlands though some much larger than others. Inshes area of Inverness is nice and Inshes primary school is very good but not small though definitely has a community feel to it. Your within walking distances of shops, close to the road to Aberdeen and not far from the centre in Inshes too. Milton of Leys is nice too. Both Inshes and Milton of Leys attract family's so there are loads of kids.

Kirkhill is on the outskirts of Inverness but some of the villages outlying Inverness have a catchment for secondary of a large Inverness school. Muir of Ord, Stathpeffer are nice but roll add a bit onto your commute to Aberdeen. The road from Inverness to Aberdeen isn't great so it's maybe better to be in Inverness or Nairn area. Culloden is also nice in parts.

Thank you. I haven't looked at Milton of Leys or Inshes, so will do that and see if they can go on the list 😁

For easy access to the train I would say Nairn is your best option and meets all the criteria you are looking for.

Join the highlands and islands properties pages on Facebook, that's where we found our house. Most of them are with agents now but you might be lucky and get one before it goes on the market. Be prepared to be shocked by the prices 😳

Thanks for the advice. The prices are quite different to D&G 😱 I'm sure it will be worth it though 😁 Did you just put out a post on the Highlands FB page @Firefightress1 and get lucky?? There seems to be so much interest on the houses on that page.
