Quick poll.... What is the nicest town to live with children: Auchterarder, Cupar, Kinross, Perth or Monifieth? Thinking safety, things to do etc. Thanks!

I'd say Kinross actually, Cupar second.

MrsElba · 13/05/2023 21:09

Kinross, definitely. Followed by Perth

fiveriseloch · 13/05/2023 21:51

Interesting....not what I expected but I will check out Kinross!

I should say, I don't know anything about Monifieth but have direct or indirect experience of the others.

fiveriseloch · 14/05/2023 00:36

What were your thoughts on Auchterarder?

Really depends what you like to spend time doing, whether you'd like living in a small town/village vs. a (small) city. How old are kids? What do they like to do? Do you need to commute anywhere?

Wbeezer · 14/05/2023 09:54

My Auchterardar thoughts, High school is a bit too small, less activities and facilities for children ( unless you can afford membership of Gleneagles country club).
The A9 is very busy and prone to disruption in bad weather ( my in-laws live there ( as do a lot of retired people!) and they always get heavier snow than us).
Kinross has a supermarket.
I don't find the town layout (the "Lang toun") attractive although the countryside over towards Crieff is very nice.

Thanks. Children aged between 5 and 9 and working in Dundee but with monthly trips to both England and Inverness....!

With working in Dundee, I'd say monifeith. I don't have any direct experience of the others so that probably is swaying my judgement a bit. But the schools are good, the area is nice and it's definitely the easiest commute into Dundee!

crazeekat · 14/05/2023 13:14

Monifeith for sure if u have kids, loads of parks, beaches shops social life restaurants.

CelticSong · 14/05/2023 17:08

If you are working in Dundee, what about Broughty Ferry, which appears to be a popular area of Dundee. You would have the beach, cafes and Grove High School which I think (correct me if I am wrong ) is the top performing state school in Dundee. Dundee is also getting an Eden Project which should be good for kids. As it is a city, masses of activities for kids. One of my closest friends from uni lives there and I am always amazed how much cheaper kids activities are in Dundee, compared to Edinburgh.

theferry · 16/05/2023 17:57

Some people may not like this, but Monifieth is the poor cousin of Broughty Ferry (which is a lovely place to have kids).

fiveriseloch · 16/05/2023 20:56

As cool as Broughty seems to be, I think Broughty (and maybe Monifieth) may be too close to the city and not surrounded by enough countryside. We're not really city types. Food for thought though....

Kinross ( or nearby village) sounds best then, straight onto motorway for commuting, nice countryside, good schools.

Calmdown14 · 17/05/2023 11:10

Carnoustie? Massive play park, plash park, skate park, beaches and easy reach to lovely country parks at crombie and monike.
