Can you help plan our unexpected family week off?

Due to a change in DHs work we have ended up with a completely unexpected week off work together in early June. We have a 2.5year old too so plans must be family friendly.

Self catering would be ideal. Access to swimming pool is a must. Happy to do caravan/lodge/cottage. Ideally have things locally that we can do with our toddler. Have from 5-14th off so happy to do a 7 night Mon-Mon or a 4 night Mon-Fri.

We’re in Ayrshire. Happy to drive about 3 hours in any direction.

We’ve done Haven Seton Sands (good but been not too long ago), Piperdam (a bit run down last time we were there!), Moness resort (horrendous!!), Crieff Hydro (too expensive for these dates but we love it!), Parkdean Southerness (nice but not a huge amount round about). Craig Tara & Auchrannie are too close to home.

Can anyone recommend anywhere we might not have thought of? Budget around £800ish for the 7 nights if self catering. Would rather a bit less if doing Mon-Fri.

St Andrews has a couple of a caravan parks and is near to Craigtoun Country Park and the Deer Centre for days out. You also have the beach too if the weather is nice.

St Andrews Holiday Park or Clayton Caravan Park. Both have pools I think.

Stirling area? I'd maybe just book the Premier Inn and use the Peak or uni pool. You have the safari park, briar lands farm, auchengarrick all nearby for trips and plenty parks too.

@alicewasahorse @BigBoysDontCry thanks! I’ll have a look at both 😊

I know friends have said great things about Ribby Hall and Granny's Heilan Hame, but both might be too far. Can recommend Craigtoun caravan park at St Andrews - close to the country park, small and safe, no pool but a pool in st andrews. Has a couple of wee parks

Aviemore, maybe the Macdonald resort? Lots to do in the Cairngorms.

Morton of pitmilly

Spey Valley Resort (Formerly known as Dalfaber) in Aviemore - you could get a lodge for Mon-Fri in your budget. Swimming pool and bar/restaurant on site, lots to do in the area.

Aviemore McDonald resort or centre Parcs Penrith

ToddlerMum2 · 08/05/2023 16:46

Thanks all 😊 will have a look at these options. I should have said Aviemore is probably out of the question. Been a fair few times as we have family there. They would expect to be involved with the majority of our plans if we’re in the area and we could really do with just come quality time just the 3 of us 😊

How about Alnwick? The castle and Alnwick Gardens are great for little ones and there is a pool at the leisure centre in town or plenty of lovely beaches a short drive away. Lots of cottages available for your budget.

Brighouse Bay caravan park near Kirkcudbright. There's loads to do in Dumfries and Galloway. Cocoa Bean chocolate factory and Cream of Galloway Ice Cream place are both brilliant.

What about a caravanning "city break"? Mortonhall campsite on the outskirts of Edinburgh has availability either Sat3rd - 10th or Mon 5th for 5 nights within budget. It doesn't have a pool but you can easily get the bus into the city centre, or it's well placed for bypass and the commonwealth pool isn't far away.

Macdonald Resort at Kinlochard?
