Transferring hospitals just before c section?!

So we’re due to move back to Scotland around a month before I’m due a c section.
just wondering if this is potentially impossible/a nightmare?
has anyone else moved even hospitals this close to due date?

planned c section as had emergency c section with last baby 11 months ago (will be 14 months by the time this baby is due).

we could stay put but then we have to move with a one year old, baby and a dog with me post c section which I don’t fancy much!

down here you just self refer to a hospital but I think in Scotland you go through GP?
has anyone done similar? How was it?

haven't done it but I would assume you'd need to get registered with a GP who would then register/refer you to midwife and it would be midwife who would arrange where you are giving birth.

no idea how difficult it will be - would think that would partly be down to where exactly you are moving to/how busy the local hospital is.

Not the same but I returned to Scotland from outside the UK when I was 36 weeks pregnant. I was in the process of buying a house but staying with family. I registered temporarily with local Gp and got a midwife appointment. She referred me on to hospital for a scan/ consultant appointment. We agreed on an induction at 40 weeks. My medical care had been spotty as in a number of countries during pregnancy but it was all very straightforward once on the conveyer belt of the NHS. I think it’d be easier for you as you’d have your notes etc.

thank you both.

Agree it would definitely depend on the local area!

Hadn’t thought about the temporarily registering with a gp so will give that a try!

They don’t normally take temporary patients but they make an exception for pregnant women so you can access midwife.

You self refer up here too, booking in is generally done with midwife at your catchment hospital. Probably best bet is to work out which is your local consultant led maternity unit and give their mat assessment unit a wee call to see how best to proceed. It won’t be a completely unique situation, you aren’t going to be neglected. Probably best to get the consultant you are currently receiving care under to write/email with a transfer letter once you know who your new consultant will be.

Do you have a rough area in mind? A recommendation for a GP goes a long way!

Yeah we’ve bought a house so know what area we’ll be in and going to spend sometime there soon so should hopefully be able to do a bit of digging! I just need to work elsewhere for a few months before moving in!
this is all great. I know rationally this will probably be fine, just being a bit of an overworrier. Thought you’re meant to worry less with your second?!?! Ha
