Harris and? Baby name help please!

We already have an almost 4 year old DS called Harris. We’re Scottish.. I got lots of negative comments about his name on here (presumably from those down south who hadn’t heard of it).

I’m 37 weeks with baby number 2. We don’t know what we’re having yet and have a few possible boy options (mainly because they were on our list last time) but really nothing for a girl! I’d like if it tied in with the Scottish theme (doesn’t have to) but not the obvious other island names ideally! Thanks for any suggestions 👏🏼

Elspeth, Fiona, Mhairi (I love the Vhairi pronunciation but appreciate that won't work for everyone!), Gillian with a hard G would all work with Harris (which is a really lovely name) Smile

I have two close relatives with the name Harris. Their brothers are Angus & Lewis. For a girl I love Fiona or Shona. Morag is also not overused these days.

I know it doesn’t fit the brief but I like Hazel with Harris.

TheGirlWhoLived · 27/04/2023 22:40

Or Ruaridh… but I do think Harris and Delilah

Girls; Isla with a y - Islay to keep your Scottish island theme.
Also like Morag, Flora or Freya.
Boys; Angus, Logan, Blair.
Good luck. Px

I forgot about Vaila. DN's bf is Vaila and I always love the sound of it.

DS3 was going to be Rowan (to rhyme with now) if he was a girl, but strangely I didn't like Rowan (rhyme with know) for a boy- but thinking now 11 years later I really like it!

Forgot about

Blair
Fergus

Although my absolute favourites are still

Struan
Lauchlan
Murdo
Nairn

Babynamehelp123 · 29/04/2023 10:09

@Puffalicious really like all of these and some were on our list last time! I didn’t realise there was a difference in the pronunciation of Rowan but I’d say it’s on the list for both, maybe more so for a girl

Definitely a different pronunciation for boy/girl. It's still not that common, which I think is nice.

DS2's friend is Rowan (girl). They're 16 and I've only heard of one other (and I'm a secondary teacher so hear all the trends). In saying that, I've only taught one Harris in all my years (and he's a star- we all know that teachers can get put off certain names easily depending on certain kids 😃) and his brothers are Struan and Angus, as an anecdote.

Let us know what you go with.
