Hi there, we are currently wanting to move from Ayrshire up to the Stirling area. Dd is in secondary school (s1)so need to find out about secondary schools which are good, and which area is good for teenagers?
many thanks

it may depend which area? -as to which school is eligible-tho they may accept requested placement. My son is at stirling high.(s1) As yet i have no complaints.

I was told to avoid Bannockburn, and that Wallace High and Stirling HS were the better two options.

I think Bannockburn is lower in the school rankings, have heard good stuff about Wallace in particular.

Dunblane is never out of the top 10 in Scotland, Balfron also highly placed. McLaren well rated but rural. But the catchment areas reflect the school's place in the league tables not the pupils and teachers. Bannockburn quite low in the rankings but a LEAPS school so any uni offers would be adjusted. Not much to choose between Stirling, Wallace and St Modans, so will depend on your son and what is right for him. Stirling has a great reputation for ICT, Wallace is a school of sport and St Modans a new vocational skills block. My 4DDs all attended a Stirling school and all went to uni (well DD4 only in her first year) in quite competitive courses, not Medicine or Law but AAABB standard. I was always happy enough and so were they.

I'm a teacher from Stirling so fairly well versed in reputations. Which can change in a heartbeat with a change of leadership.

Don't move to an area with a school you're unsure of thinking "we'll get a placement request " as Dunblane, Stirling and St Modans have year groups that are full. Schools that traditionally granted all placements are no longer and as the new builds which are springing up all round Stirling fill up with families that will only get worse.

Have loved raising a family here and enjoy (most of the time Wink) teaching here.

Thank you everyone, my daughter is currently having trouble with bully’s at her current school as we are originally from London. She has been through so much in the past three years that I’d like to make sure that she gets settled into a good school quickly and can finally just make some friends, as that is all she wants.
she is not so sporty, and prefers the academic side of things, she is a complete book worm.

If she’s being bullied due to being from London (accent)- and you don’t have to say, because this opens up a whole other debate and will distract from your op- but you will be best to head for Dunblane High. Dunblane school would suit her best if she’s a bookworm too. You’ll find people there have moved from other parts of U.K Lots of community groups and clubs she could join too. For the Stirling residential areas, along with Bridge of Allan (because of the Uni there) you’ll find a mix of where people have moved from and more who commute to GW and EDIN for work, but I wouldn’t describe it as a diverse community, if that’s also important to you. Good luck OP.

I went to Dunblane High, lots of kids with English accents ( or just sounding a bit posh!) even in my day, also generally bookworm friendly.
It can be hard to find a house though, there never seen to be enough on the market, I failed when I tried as my budget was a bit small for Dunblane.

ok.(easy bout being outed).My son s "extended"family is sorta pandemic varient... in stirling+extended areas. ... my ds1 is 27.attended sh..went on to uni(despite single mum/poverty inclined/yadda yadda)
ds 2 had WAY more traumatic time.........off scale no way am tell on here...KNOWN pupil before even hit s1(not proud bout that)his prim sc was very strong influence in "who out his peers would be in class" for god knows why this absolute delicate approach to his needs omitted to m notice two direct bloodline(same last names)cousins was same form class. ten mins into day 1-it became apparent...stir high was rapid response/minimalised damage/onit/informed parents etc.... 7 days on no improvement = seperate all 3= no issues since......(yet-honestly) I am not fly shs flag particularly.i think "academic"is....not as focused on as once was../not happy bout it but thats a me issue. ...
