Advice on Broughty Ferry/Monifieth area

Hello!

I used to live in Dundee“s West End as a single and now considering moving back with a young family.

We currently live in East Dunbartonshire, north of Glasgow (you know: best schools in the country, award-winning parks, one of the most desiserable places to live according to annual surveys) but I“m tired of Greater Glasgow being a huge city (I hate the commute) and, most importantly, the constant rain some months a year.

Now Im considering the Broughty Ferry/Monifieth area to move back to, and I“d like to get your honest opinions about it around these issues:

schools (don“t care about academic achievement that much but I do care about bullying or bad behaviour -here in ED kids and teenagers seem so well-behaved and kind to each other!)
antisocial behavior: I love Dundee City centre, but we all know that it's quite common to see drug addicts or antisocial behavior in plain sight (something I dont mind myself but more afraid of exposing my children to). Is there any of this at all in the Ferry/Monifieth? Or does it always feel 100% secure as the nice bits of Greater Glasgow?
GPs (here we“re seen like in a couple of hours after phoning the practice, always on the same day)
nurseries (here they aren't that great and its rather difficult to get a space), any recommended ones?
activities for families/children: I feel here we are pampered with so many options and classes for children, like drama, dancing, music ones. Does it feel the same there? Any recommendations?

Sorry for so many questions, Id really prefer to live in Tayside again as I love the area and have many friends there, but you know how moving cities is an important step, and so your honest opinions about the area would be so useful and welcome for making this difficult decision.

Many thanks!

i can’t help much with Monifieth, except that the schools are pretty good.

For the Ferry
schools

  • all three primaries are pretty good. I preferred Forthill for my DDs
  • the secondary school js Grove Academy. My DDs are there and don’t have any complaints. Lots of after school clubs and activities.
Antisocial behaviour
  • there has been a few incidents recently but I’ve never seen or heard anything. Definitely different demographic to the West End. Very few students. Mostly families and elderly.
GPs
  • I can only comment on the one. I go to, which is OK
  • if you ring at spot on 8am, yiu can usually get to speak to a doctor the same dayy. Then they decide whether they can sort if over the phone or go in.
Nurseries
  • It’s been many years since I used childcare but we used Nursery Rhymes, which is in the centre
  • it didn’t have all the fancy stuff that some places have but it was really well run and was a bit small but it www great for the kids.
I will add more later on!
