Homeschool Crash Higher?

My DD is currently in S5 and on course to get a good set of Higher results. For S6 she had picked an AH and three more highers, one of which (biology) she was going to do as a crash higher. However, school have advised us that biology is oversubscribed, and so those who had opted to do a crash higher cannot.

DD had her heart set on it, and having looked at the other options available, there isn't really anything suitable.

I wondered if anyone knew whether it would be possible for me to homeschool her in that one subject somehow? By way of background, I have two undergraduate degrees, one in biological sciences and one in an allied medical profession, so I don't think it would be too much of a stretch for us to do it.

Has anyone done this? Any advice?

Have you looked at Evening classes as an option?

We've not looked at anything yet, to be honest. They sent the letter out after school last night, so we've not had much time to think about it.

Will investigate, thank you.

My son Is doing Higher Human Biology this year. I have a degree in biological sciences and I am pretty sure that I could impart the knowledge needed. But I think there would be other things to consider.
The SQA are known for being very prescriptive in how questions are answered so that bit might be tricky. And there will be practical work.
I think they are bringing back the practical coursework for the sciences next year too, not sure how you would homeschool that.
Good luck!

Is the option to sit the exam available?

I home ed in Scotland and DC won't be working towards exams but one of the things that came up repeatedly when I was looking into it was that a lot of Scottish home ed kids actually sit GCSE as Nat 5 isn't an option for them at the moment. I don't know if it's the same for higher though.

Up until covid there was coursework for the sciences, practical work and then written up under exam conditions. I think it was 20% of final mark..
As PP mentioned they may bring that back for next year so you'd need to check that out

Much of the course work is back for the next session. SQA announced the specifics this week.
