Leisure pools

Wondering if anyone knew of any good leisure pools? So not just lane swimming but slides, etc for primary aged children. We use to go to Dundee all the time but that’s been closed for ages. Perth is apparently closing. Time Capsule is never open in daytime and is so old and run down. Scotland seems to be lacking a really good (clean!) swimming pool with fun slide etc does it not?

I can't help, but agree about the Time Capsule. The last time we went, I was shocked at the state of it & it was so cold DD was chittering. I used to love it when I was little, I was so disappointed.

Nothing as big a time capsule, it's a shame they've let it get so run down.

Xcite Livingston has river rapids and a couple of flumes.

Mariner Centre in Falkirk has a really good wave machine and a couple of slides.

Dunbar has flumes and wave machine.

Hamilton water palace also has flumes, rapids and a pirate play ship but you'd need to check if this opened back after covid as we've never been.

Craig tara near Ayr is probably the best leisure pool I'm scotland but it's part of a holiday park, I'm not sure if you need to stay or if you can buy day passes.

Perth Leisure Pool closing? No! I love it there.🙁
I guess these places are expensive to run.

We have river rapids, and two flumes in our main leisure centre in Shetland but probably a bit far for you!

I’ve the choice of 3 swimming pools within 15 mins of my home and my kids have no idea how luck they are!

It always surprised me the number of swimming pools in Shetland but they are brilliant as well. Plus side of being heated by a waste recovery plant low energy bills!

I've always wanted to visit Shetland!

Hamilton is rubbish I don't think the leisure pool and flumes has reopened. The priate ship is open for under 7s. And I think you still need to book it.

I saw something the other day on the news that they were experimenting using the heat from a small data centre to heat a pool somewhere.

Yes the leisure facilities are amazing, we are very lucky! Only the Clickimin is powered by waste energy plant though, it doesn’t heat anything beyond Lerwick. They were originally built using oil money and the Trust is still partially funded that way too. If only UK government had the foresight of the Shetland Island Council and Norway back in the 1970s!

I listened to a radio program one night years ago, they were talking about Shetland being the richest Local Authority in Europe.
All credit to the three councillors who knew the oil companies needed to go to Shetland and stood their ground, they walked out of a meeting when the companies tried to call their bluff.
They insisted on one terminal, land owned by the council and rent paid to ensure they had a fund to clean up when the oil runs dry.

Ah didn't realise that, knew it heated public buildings from visits there and there used to be a family of otters who lived next to the pipe as it was warm ☺️

Yes the oil funds make a huge difference especially in Norway its too late to instigate in the UK unfortunately we wanted the money upfront (think it was the predictions would only last 20 years).
Aberdeen insisted that offices built had a secondary purpose hence the old Shell building is laid out like a hospital and BP like a shopping centre but many of the buildings are empty and haven't been used as a second element.

Shetlands amazing leisure and public building facilities seem to be once ofbthe least known things in Scotland! Love the cinema/public space building in Lerwick!

The Beach Leisure Centre in Aberdeen has closed too. Inverness still has a leisure pool.

I go up to Shetland for work, the leisure centres are amazing as is the state of the roads!

At a Board Meeting on Thursday, it was agreed that Perth leisure pool, and the Dewars centre would stay open until March next year, then be reassessed.
