Murrayfield help?

Wondering if anyone in Scotland could help? Or anyone who's been to Murrayfield!

I'm taking DD to Murrayfield in May to see Harry Styles. I'm going to have to drive there and back in the day as there are literally no hotel rooms anywhere (at least not ones I can afford!)

Just wondering how to actually get to the stadium? Am I better parking a way away and getting a bus or taxi there? My only concern is that it won't finish until late so I don't want to be stranded there with no way to get back to my car!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Dump the car at the Airport/Edinburgh park, tram to the stadium stop, then tram back to car. Tram is likely to be mobbed in the aftermath of a concert though.

Don't park at the stadium as it could take ages to get out car park!

You could park near the zoo and get bus from there, be about 10 mins later n bus.
Or else drive in the Queensferry road and park on side street by the Holiday Inn express and it's about a 15 min walk from there. The beauty of that is when you leave you can go back out Queensferry road again which will avoid a lot of the concert traffic

Thank you! That's really helpful.

I'm dreading it to be honest, but it's her 'well done for your gcse results' gift which seemed like a good idea at the time 🤦🏼‍♀️

Similar situation here and I’ll be doing what @NewFL suggests. It’s what I generally do when I go to the rugby.

Groovee · 08/03/2023 16:37

Where are you coming from? Edinburgh has a few park and rides which would be easier for parking. When we go to Murrayfield, we live on the tramline and get the tram there.

VintageThoughts · 08/03/2023 16:39

I'm coming up from Yorkshire!

I've had a look and I think the trams run until quite late on a Saturday night but as mentioned by previous OP, I think it will be rammed.

I like the idea of parking near the zoo and being able to walk to the stadium. Im having to drive home afterwards so could do with not waiting hours to get back to the car!!

I would park in the Comely Bank area. Round the corner from Waitrose. It’s a lovely walk to the stadium ( 15 mins maybe) and even less on the way back ( downhill). Plenty of cafes /toilets in the area and you will be well on your way by the time most folk have left the venue.

trickyfriendsone · 08/03/2023 16:47

Park at Gorgie as near to tynecastle as you can and walk round it's really not that far and folk tend to park the other side of murrayfield.
If you do have to park further afield the buses in Edinburgh are a great service and run frequently and until late so you wouldn't end up stranded.

VintageThoughts · 08/03/2023 16:53

These are brilliant suggestions. Thank you all!Smile

You walk fast, google maps is saying 40 minutes.

Timeandtune · 08/03/2023 17:03

I suppose I am a fast walker . I am 63 so no spring chicken.
Always prefer to walk rather than wait for buses /trams etc.

If you're driving North up the A1 you can park at Wallyford Station near Mussleburgh and get the train to Haymarket. From there, just follow the crowds. Wear warm clothes and enjoy the game!

kirkandpetal · 08/03/2023 17:30

Comely Bank is a good suggestion - what time are you arriving in Edinburgh? If you can get here earlier in the day, you can park up and go to Botanics for a wander and/or go to one of the many nice cafes for an early tea before heading to Murrayfield. Parking is on street and will cost you though but you're not likely to get free parking anywhere much thanks for Edinburgh war against cars!

My daughter is going too, thankfully another mum is taking her with friends although I quite like some of his new stuff so it wouldn't have been so bad to go!!

S0upertrooper · 08/03/2023 17:32

Sorry, I've just reread your post and you're not going to the rugby 🤣 If you decide to park at Wallyford, check the train times as I'm not sure how late they run.

manictuesday · 08/03/2023 17:38

That's a really long drive home after a late gig. Have you considered getting a hotel in Glasgow? I can still see cheap options for those dates and the last train from Haymarket is 23.50. It's only 45min on train.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 08/03/2023 17:47

That's a brutally long day. Have you looked at airport hotels/hotels near South Gyle/Edinburgh park? Then you can just hop on the tram. They will be busy immediately post the concert but nothing unmanageable.

GetDownkeith · 08/03/2023 17:59

Have you thought about staying somewhere like Perth or Stirling and getting the train and tram in and out?
That's what we do if we are going to Edinburgh for something.

To be fair she'll probably still need to wrap up warm on a summer evening at MurrayfieldGrin

mrstea301 · 08/03/2023 19:29

The last gig I was at in Murrayfield, we used that rent your driveway website to hire a driveway to park in which was great! Really easy to organise and easy walking distance from the stadium!

VintageThoughts · 08/03/2023 20:30

@mrstea301

This is a great idea! Thank you. I've just managed to book a driveway less than a mile away which is perfect.

Thank you so much!

15minutes?? It's over 1.5miles just to the entrance to the stadium and it's really downhill on the way back!
I'd use the tram from Ingliston park & ride. It'll be busy but everywhere is going to be after the stadium empties and if you don't know your way round the city and the back roads then that could be even more stressful.

IkBenDeMol · 10/03/2023 17:21

Definitely tram!!

MMarvellous · 25/04/2023 19:20

I have a large driveway in leafy suburb under a 10 minute walk from the stadium, registered on JustPark, easy walk down the hill to any of the stands.
