Hello, does anyone live in/ know St Andrews well? Have booked DM and I in for a night at Fairmont for Mother’s Day and wondering about a Saturday evening activity, like theatre or similar. I’ve looked at the Byre and don’t see anything that night. Any ideas? And anywhere you’d recommend to eat? I haven’t looked at the menu at fairmont as to whether we should stay there. Thanks.

the restaurant forgans in St Andrew’s? book a table, have something, to eat then they often have ceilidh on a Saturday night?even if she doesn’t fancy dancing the music will be good and it’s nice to watch.

the steak barn at balgrove larder is good.

Bow bridge alpacas? Learn all about alpacas, take them for a walk? They might do an evening thing.

eden mill distillery might have a visitor tour if your mums likes gin.

Or travel across the the Tay bridge and head to Dundee rep for a show?

Haar, The Seafood Ristorante and the Doll's House are all great though quite spenny. We also loved The Rav which is more casual and had great service.

I really wouldn't eat at the Fairmont but then I hate hotel dining rooms. No matter how good the food, it always feels very corporate and plasticky. There are loads of better options. There's also a fancy fish and chips place on the high street with a restaurant through the back, omg the chips were amazing.

Thank you so much, belatedly, for these tips! I had a look at a few of them, the ceilidh sounds like a good shout and I agree that eating in the hotel is less appealing. I know she will want an ice cream from the nice place I forget the name of. Just a shame nothing on at the theatre, I’ll maybe check cinema listings for something like that to do.

I think the student run Arts festival, On The Rocks, runs over that weekend. It’ll only be advertising what’s on at very last minute (because…students), but the Byre might have some more information nearer the time

Are you thinking of Jannetta's for ice cream? Love that place and now I'm really craving an ice cream 🤣

Oooh great! Thank you, I will keep my eye out.

And yes Janetta’s @ThreeB ! Fond memories of huge queues in the sun as a child for cones with sprinkles and chopped nuts. Irn bru ice cream.
