Hi, I just found out my chronic medical condition is covered by the Equality Act. I will do some reading and research but what does this mean practically? I’m doing work for the nhs just now
Thanks

You are entitled to Reasonable Adjustments that may be necessary due to your disability. That could mean for example, adjustment to hours or certain shifts which you wouldn't have to work, a quiet area to work free from noise, working from home (if job can be done from home). Obviously depends how the condition affects you.

You are entitled to assessment for any special equipment you may need.
Your employer also has to make sure you have the same opportunities for promotion, training etc as everyone else and are not discriminated against due to your disability.

You are covered by the protected characteristic of disability and as the PP said, you are entitled to reasonable adjustments. If you are not sure what adjustments to request, then tell your manager you would like a referral to occupational health to discuss. Join a union, if you haven't already, in case of any difficulties down the line in getting those adjustments.
