Scottish Greens - do any of them have kids?

Just seen Maggie Chatman’s video about 6 year old trans kids, and wondered why they are pushing this ideology so much. Looked at the Green MSPs - none of them mention their own children, which made me wonder if this is why we’d they are so complacent about people’s concerns in this area.

( I’m not saying that you have to have children to be against transsing small children but it seems odd to not have any parents in a relatively powerful political party)

Sorry, loads of typos and not explained myself that well.

I know that at least one Green MSP who is married and has two boys who are probably about 12 and 14.

The one who lives near me is a wee laddie himself who lives at home with mum and dad, does that count?

BrassMarbles · 15/01/2023 09:28

I know someone who is married to one. Their kid is trans (and has ASD) Hmm

HufflepuffRavenclaw · 15/01/2023 09:32

I wonder if we are talking about the same person, @BrassMarbles as there aren't that many of them. The one I am talking about I don't know really at all, his wife is someone I knew years ago and am friends with on social media. Central Scotland. Although I don;t think either of her children are trans.

BringItOn2023 · 15/01/2023 09:34

Andy Wightman had kids and was effectively ejected from the party.

Runningslow · 15/01/2023 10:53

I see Mark Russell has kids, wonder if he supported the GRR bill as much as the others.

Ruskell?

He is a career politician. He will 100% have supported in.

Runningslow · 16/01/2023 10:26

Yes I meant Ruskell. I hoped there might be one Green MSP with a bit of sense with respect to youth

Mostly not, but given that environmental reasons play a part, you can hardly criticise them for that.

Runningslow · 16/01/2023 13:16

I don’t criticise them for not having kids, I wonder why they show so little understanding of children, parenting and safeguarding.

I also think the sex of the children matters. All the self-ID stuff does not affect boys in the same way as it affects girls.

Endpress · 16/01/2023 16:55

You’re saying exactly what everyone around me is saying. A niche, unrepresentative agenda with a skewed power.

ProseccoOnIce · 16/01/2023 18:15

And all this nonsense about it being a democratic vote by MSP's (who were whipped in to it).

Or the anti-trans agenda driven by the far right.

No, just common sense considering the rights of women not just a small minority of men.

I'm glad Westminster is intervening.

Spring23 · 16/01/2023 19:03

So glad Starmer has said that 16 is too young for self-id, a welcome note from labour. Of course I'm sure this is exactly the scenario the SNP dreamed would play out...

Indiana2021 · 16/01/2023 22:21

Listened to a recording of Maggie Chapman on LBC today. Oh my!

ProseccoOnIce · 16/01/2023 22:54

Ross Greer's Twitter page is hilarious - he's sharing a "protect trans rights" banner & the comments are not supportive to say the least.

I find it really disappointing that a ‘green/environmental’ party is so invested in this… and not the environment plus millions of other issues.

Tumty · 20/01/2023 16:35

Does this kind of policy win votes ? I would have thought more likely a majority of the public would not want self Id so young. But maybe I am not speak to the right people?

Think of parties as competing in a market and it's easier to understand. The Greens know they’re always going to be a small minor party, but have identified their niche and are catering to it.

Runningslow · 22/01/2023 14:43

i suspect a fair number of Green votes come from those who don’t follow politics apart from the usual ‘Tories evil’ sound bites, and think the Greens sound like a nice environmentally friendly thing to vote for.

probably not.

i mean transgender is the exception but not the rule and they have so many young people and kids questioning their own identity these days as they have heard about it so much.

yes the poor kid going through this needs to be understood and not bullied by other kids so they need to know about it - but the agenda doesnt need to be forced down their throats as often or as much as it is being done right now.

wouldnt it be good if they actually sorted out public transport in scotland.

ive been away for a few years and i cant beleive it has gotten worse - as it was already bad enough.

came back in the summer for a family event and i was astonished at how much a bus ticket actually costs and how unreliable the routes actually were.

1 - locally a taxi for 2 adults and 1 kid was cheaper than the bus

and 2 - travelling from the west coast to edi airport (easyjet flight cancelations from glasgow) was a nightmare. it cost me the best part of 100 pounds for 2 adults and a kid to get there. thank goodness the bus takes cards these days and i could claim it back from the airline.

no wonder i had a car previously - and i see it would be even more necessary these days since all the trains were cancelled and those that were running stopped at 6pm.

even from glasgow to ayrshire after rush hour was at an eyewatering cost. id hate to be paying full fares to get to work in the morning.

so no the green party arent doing their job.

I’m no supporter of Lorna Slater or her party but I think that comment is awful DaftMum47 and have reported it.

Daftmum47 · 02/06/2023 19:42

I apologise. It did cross a line and I definitely shouldn’t have posted it. I get very angry at what the outcome of her party’s policies could do to our children, though, there needs to be accountability.
I’m sorry.
