Edinburgh nurseries

Just wondering what folks experiences are with Edinburgh nurseries please. We have offers for two and are on the waiting list for five others

We live in Leith but work in town so have fairly wide choice, though we don't have a car so drop off and pick up will be walking or bus if weather is gross

Offers are Around the World and Busy Bees Broughton

We're waiting to hear from Pilrig, Victoria Quay, Forbes at Claremont, Meadows and Grange

Thanks

Meadows and Grange are an odd choice if you're coming from Leith direction. Pick somewhere close to home or en route to work.

Never used any of those so can't comment on quality of care.

Outdoor space was always an important factor for me. As well as staff turnover and food/menu.

Yes agree with @Invisimamma - food, outdoor space and I'd go for closer to home because they are often so tired by the end of the day, none of them is unmissable otherwise.

Additionally it's nice if they're in the same area as their school catchment and there is some friend overlap.

Close to home is very helpful if you have a day off and still want to put them in nursery. Otherwise you have an hour's round trip either side of crap like getting a smear test and going to the dentist. Fun packed days!

Thank you. Meadows and Grange make sense due to where we work but would like Claremont most.

Broughton would be ok, and around the world seems lovely but doesn't do lunch.

Claremont and meadows both have outdoor space and Pilrig do the forest school.

Unless you both work close to each other, I'd go for a nursery that is close to your home rather than close to work. Otherwise, all the drop offs and pick ups fall on one person.

I work near the meadows but dp isn't that far away

I can really recommend Pilrig. My child attended from the baby room until school age and was really happy. It has a large private garden, plenty of trips to the park and the chef was brilliant too.

Does anyone have any experience with early days nursery, Palmerston Place? I’m thinking of starting my girl there when she is 8 months. I’m nervous and looking for reviews (good or bad) from parents who have used this nursery. Thanks in advance

Has Pilrig nursery option of part time?

thank you.

Cowgate under fives is just amazing. Long waiting list though as it is so sought after. Really brilliant and thoughtful philosophy that has an understanding and respect for children like none I have ever come across. Real freedom and rich play environment for children. Really follow children's interests. Have an amazing belief in children's capacity. Take children out to the countryside regularly and other trips. I used to hang around there when I picked up my kids as it was so amazing. It really helped me to understand childhood and children. Excellent staff too as its such a desirable place for them to work. Over 100 applicants for vacancies so they can pick the best of the best. Staff very well educated and trained and child centred. I felt it was a like a village of children and adults living together. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It was utterly transformational for me. And my kids absolutely love it. They still talk about it and my eldest is ten now! It really was like no other nursery I have ever visited.

I believe they do.

We are long out of the nursery stage so can't really help, but if you do go for a nursery close to home rather than close to work, can you get there in time if traffic is unexpectedly a nightmare on the way home? Will you be fined for a late pick up? Can you do drop off and still get to work on time? We picked a nursery near work for all of those reasons.
