Where to live while you are renovating in Edinburgh

Hello
We are planning renovations next year and will likely need to move out of our home for maybe 3 months (it’s all a bit how long is a piece of string at this point!). I was wondering where to look for temporary accommodation. We are after at least a 2 bedroom, ideally 3 in south or southwest Edinburgh. I’ve looked at Airbnb (mega expensive!) and Citlets and also some of those corporate type apartments but they are mainly 1 bedroom. I’m guessing landlords wouldn’t want to take a family on for a short and unpredictable term though. Is there somewhere that I can look which advertises this kind of accommodation and what is a reasonable expectation of cost? What do others do?
Anyone any ideas?

You are right about landlords not accepting such an unpredictable let. You could approach and air B and B and ask if they would do a longer term let. I’d also suggest you might need to look outwith the city and travel in when needed. Widen your search area and you might get something.

When are your renovations? Spring and Summer might make getting anything difficult. Winter might make people more open to a 3 month rental.

good luck.

We have stayed in some
really nice serviced apartments in Leith with kids - I think they were called Ocean View or something similar. Worth giving them a call and asking for a long term rate.

When we lived abroad and would come back to the UK for extended periods, I would always search for “holiday cottages” on Google maps, find a nice one and then negotiate with the owners for a long stay rate. I always stayed away from AirBnB (too many horror stories!)

I know someone who stayed in a cottage on Swanston farm for a couple of months when they were having renovations.
Otherwise remember there is no minimum rental period in Scotland now so you could rent a property and then give notice when house is ready. The rental market is pretty stretched at moment though so may well need to go out of the city.

Thanks all…will take a look at Swanston..that would be a great location for us. Also may call around some of the services apartment providers.

We had a short term furnished let while waiting for the place we were buying. Can't remember the name of the agents but have you tried searching with those terms? We were there for about 3 months. That was two bedrooms in Morningside.

My suggested the Swanston cottages mentioned above as friends of theirs used them. Bit dear for us and a long way from school.

Remember renovations are notorious for running over.
