Loch Ness glamping things to do

mayaknew · 11/10/2022 19:07

Booked glamping at drumnadrochit for a few nights next week.

We are going to go to glenfinnan viaduct on the way up and go through to Culloden as well.

Looking for some other ideas

Plus decent places to eat that we can take the dog. Got a teen and 2 primary age kids with us. And the doggo 🐶

Any advice would be much appreciated

This website is useful for finding walking routes www.walkhighlands.co.uk/

Urquhart Castle is pretty breathtaking but no dogs allowed unfortunately.

Sunday lunch at Loch Ness Inn
Boat trip fro Fort Augustus

Go to Culloden battlefield near the end of the day. It's not evocative when hordes of coach parties are tramping the paths. Also the visitor's centre doesn't allow dogs in. Why?? And £3 to park is annoying.

Depending on how far you want to go, Chanonry Point for the dolphins.

Bestcatmum · 12/10/2022 18:52

Go and see Aleister Crowleys home on the shores of Loch Ness its being renovated by his occult group. You might spot some demons. It's called Boleskine.

Inverness museum has some nice bits in it and it's donation entry. You could then walk along the banks of the river need and have lunch or a coffee and cake. The old court house next to the museum has a glass tower at the top to view the city. If you drive pop up to the top of Milton of leys as the view is lovely over the city and onto the black isle though unfortunately there are no coffee shops etc. Ord Hill is similar but not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. Eileen donan castle is lovely at Kyle of lochalsh but it's about 1 hour 45 minutes drive west. You can combine it with a day trip to Skye. The Black isle is nice. Rosemarkie beach is nice though chilly but you often see dolphins around it and you can walk to fairy glen (again unsuitable for people with walking difficulties). If you are driving up Highland folk museum near Newtonmore is interesting but I think you pre-book it online now. Cromarty on the black isle has some nice bits so worth looking up.

Make sure you pack an extra layer, warm socks, gloves and hats as the temperature is dropping day by day up here just now. Also good rain jackets..The sun is shining but it's chilly.

When you visit Culloden, you should also try and visit Fort George too. Quite an amazing place!

Threeboysandadog · 15/10/2022 21:19

If you’re going to see the dolphins at Chanonry Point or to Rosemarkie there is Munro’s Nurseries on the way. My sister and I had a lovely lunch there a couple of weeks ago. They apologised that they were really short staffed but the service was great and the food lovely. I’m pretty sure that dogs are welcome there.

Plodda Falls is definitely worth a look. We went last time we stayed at Drumnadrochit.

Iusedtobecarmen · 18/10/2022 11:47

Just stumbled on this! Only like one of my favourite places ever. I'm jealous.
Yes to Fort George, such a good day out.
And Omg yes although it made me very anxious(height and water together).
I have very find memories of Drumnadrochit.

Iusedtobecarmen · 18/10/2022 11:48

Sorry the omg yes was for Plodda Falls😀

Enjoy a superb meal at the Whitebridge Hotel. Sunday lunch is particularly good.

martha4clark · 10/11/2022 21:17

@mayaknew Did you have a good time?

Twiggywinkle13 · 10/11/2022 21:27

If you’re planning on eating in Drum there’s the most amazing pizza restaurant just beside the co-op - it’s the best pizza outside Italy! Lovely Italian family own it.

It’s a lovely drive around Loch Ness also, some stunning views. You’ll pass my house!!

Take warm clothes - it’s cold here now (milder this week but it’s back to normal next). You’re close to it anyway so go to Glencoe, the views are just amazing and it’s regularly snowing there again now. Glenfinnan is also fab.

If you’re coming to Inverness the museum is good, there’s a lovely indoor Victorian market which has lovely places to eat too.

have fun!
