Christmas Eve……sorry

This Christmas will be my husband’s first CE off in 7 years. With the exception of the markets in Edinburgh (if they actually go head with this weeks news), can anyone suggest a day or an afternoon out that’s quite good for a 15 and a 13 year old. Not really into going for a walk. I was thinking about the cinema but we can do that anytime. Pitlochry lights will be finished by then. We live in Perthshire so very central and less than 10 minutes from the motorway.

I’ve never kept up with Christmas activities just because DH has never been able to come plus my own work commitments.

The winter wonderland in Edinburgh does always feel a bit magical on Christmas Eve as it starts to get dark and the excitement builds.
Teenagers will enjoy the ice skating (need to book) and some of the rides. Hot chocolate/mulled wine in one of the igloo type huts

I think the safari park opens for Christmas. They have markets and stuff as well as the usual.

The people organising the event pulled out earlier in the week. Not sure if it’s going ahead this year or not.

Santa's woodland experience. You wont regret it, even with older kids.

Lots of the big houses have things on at Xmas - Jupiter artland, archerfield etc.

This is sold out for Xmas eve.

Safari park isn't open on Xmas eve either, that finishes on 23rd.

With teens I'd probably do Glasgow or Edinburgh even without the Xmas markets, although I'm sure the Edinburgh one will go ahead with a different organiser. Glasgow markets may not and were always rubbish compared to Edinburgh but the shopping is better

Not quite the same but I heard the Murrayfield ice rink is reopening, that would still be a wintery experience

LizzieMacQueen · 02/10/2022 18:00

What about a panto?

I really enjoyed Christmas at the Botanics last year.
Seems they have a Northern Lights inspired theme this year.

redredwineub40 · 02/10/2022 20:32

Christmas at the botanics is lovely and the castle lights.

Bytrgrewd · 02/10/2022 20:38

Highland wildlife park? www.highlandwildlifepark.org.uk/

skiing lesson at Cairngorm? There is usually a patch of man made snow by then

ProseccoOnIce · 02/10/2022 21:39

I went to the Christmas lights at the Botanic gardens in Edinburgh last year - they were really special, well worth the money.

The Castle was lit up & the Zoo but never got to these.

emmathedilemma · 03/10/2022 13:46

There's still tickets for the lights at the Botanics, if you've never been it's nice.
