Ds wants to apply to only one course/university - is this too risky?

I'm not entirely sure how the admissions process works for Scotland. If you meet the entry requirements are you quite likely to get a place?

Ds knows exactly what he wants to study and where and he doesn't want to apply anywhere else. He meets the standard entry requirements and is also eligible for an adjusted offer as he goes to a pretty terrible school and we live in a deprived area - SIMD decile 1.

Should I be encouraging him to apply elsewhere as well, or telling him he has to (and hoping he'll listen)? I've asked him what his plan is if he doesn't get an offer, and he seems to think it's so unlikely it's not worth worrying about. Is he right?

As a lawyer that wording is unclear. I would probably read that as guaranteed that their offer, if they get one, will be adjusted, NOT that they have a guarantee of an offer.

It needs clarifying.

In fact that whole page is appallingly drafted.

There's no separate admissions process in Scotland, UCAS is UCAS wherever you are.

SO many variables. Our school always recommends 5 selections on the form even if there is only one you've set your heart on - why wouldn't you? It's only something like £2 more to make all your choices.

My son exceeded requirements for Glasgow by far for the 2 courses he applied for, got one unconditional and one conditional offer, luckily the unconditional was for his preferred course. His friend only applied for Glasgow and said if he didn't get in then he'd rather wait a year and try again than go anywhere else. There are no guarantees with Scottish places but best let him make his decisions, it sounds like he has done all he can!
My son is loving first year so far!

Is clearer if you click thru to the specific subjects (I just choose the first one).

It's not medicine is it? This would be a foolish strategy for medicine.
Probably be fine for most other courses but it does seem worth having a back up option. He doesn't have to take it, the options of clearing and waiting a year would still apply.
There's a long time between application and starting and much that can happen so extra choice is always sensible

@SandyIrvine I hadn't realised he was an accepted member of the widening participation process .

@beachcitygirl Yes OPs DS has 5As +SIMD1+ underperforming school. So he's a perfect applicant for Glasgow
