Patrick Harvie - disgusting excuse for a man

Did anyone else see his "tribute" in the parliament yesterday? Sturgeon behaved herself and spoke respectfully to the new King. As did Cole-Hamilton and Sarwar. Then that wee numpty Harvie gets up and rattles on about change coming.

Don't forget that he and his cronies staged a walk-out when the parliament debated the Jubilee in June.

He's an embarrassment and an utter fanny.

I liked his speech, what’s wrong with it? Why do republicans have to respect the King any more than we respect any other person? I would rather he be honest than pretend that he feels differently than he does.

There's a time and a place.

Three days after the death of the Queen, when her grieving son is sitting yards from you, is neither. He should have declined to speak at all. Arse.

The perfect time to talk about what a ridiculous notion an unelected, hereditary Head of State is, is right at the height of the pompous, ridiculous, centuries-out-of-date histrionics and nonsense that comes along with it.

It's exactly what is going on right now that is offensive to many republicans, and Harvie's views are perfectly in line with those of a lot of the electorate, so it's perfectly appropriate for him to stand up in parliament ,rubbish the entire thing and highlight what a nonsense it is.

The 'time and place' folk are coming across in the exact same way the 'now is not the time' folk in the States do every single time another load of schoolkids have been murdered by someone with a load of legally owned firearms. There's no moratorium on republicanism, and nor should people feel obliged to participate in compelled mourning or 'show respect' for an institution they hold in complete contempt.

kikisparks · 13/09/2022 14:47

He didn’t say anything bad about the queen or Charles though. I actually think this is the perfect time to talk about the future and change and I liked his message about loss. It was refreshing to me. If he declined to speak then he’d be accused of being disrespectful too no doubt, since it was apparently not ok for the Greens to decline to debate the Jubilee.

Good for him.
#AbolishTheMonarchy #NotMyKing

@XDownwiththissortofthingX I feel exactly the same about being glad that republican views are being represented, as they should be in a democracy where a substantial number of people share them. I didn’t really feel that Harvie did use this opportunity to rubbish the entire thing or highlight what a nonsense it is though, I feel his message was very finely balanced of expressing the republican view whilst respecting that a family were grieving and that there were people in the country who felt deeply about the monarchy.

And I think it’s also fine for people to share that they’re mourning the monarch, or nice memories of her or whatever they want, but those shouldn’t be the only views that are respected.

I disagree. I entirely accept that Charles will be grieving the death of his mother. But he has chosen to continue to "work", and this is a "work" engagement. You cannot expect people who are opposed to the monarchy to sit in silence when the "work engagement" is a reinforcement of all that they are opposed to. This is part and parcel of the "job" and like anyone else, if the job is not to your liking you are entitled to resign. But if you choose to accept that "you are King" and to tell people that is the case and they are your subjects, then you don't get a free pass on people saying #NotMyKing.

Doesn't really have a choice though does he? It's protocol and procedure and duty.

Well there's this thing known as 'abdication', only the recent history of our monarchy and the pomposity of the institution itself has rendered even that act completely toxic. Just look at the hate and abuse Harry and Meghan have received for 'opting out' and attempting to be even somewhat 'normal'.

kikisparks · 13/09/2022 15:01

Well it’s a pretty outdated and inhumane system that doesn’t give someone a choice about whether they work or not following the death of a parent if you ask me.

BinBandit · 13/09/2022 16:12

I've not seen it as I can't stand to see or listen to that odious nyaff.

I agree there is a time and a place, people seem to have no sense of manners.

I'm sure all the republicans will be turning up for work on the bank holiday then?

alexdgr8 · 13/09/2022 16:17

was he the fellow with the round glasses, he looked a bit strange to me.
the others spoke well, but he seemed to be making political points, kind of grandstanding, which was out of place.
my friend who is from overseas also thought he was out of kilter.
i didn't like it or him.
don't know what a nyaff is, but he is probably one.

KassandraOfSparta · 13/09/2022 16:22

Why would I, as a republican, or anyone else in my situation, turn up to work at an office that is closed?

We'd happily be open and working if it was my decision, but it's not, so I'll happily take the day off and use it to do something constructive or get through some housework.

BinBandit · 13/09/2022 17:17

Hypocrite. Happy to take a day that is specifically to honour the queen's funeral? Maybe you could work from home or donate the hours to charity or donate your earnings.

Seriously?!

This isn't North Korea.

kikisparks · 13/09/2022 18:32

Do you feel the same about everyone who takes Christmas and Easter bank holidays off if they aren’t religious? Are they hypocrites too?

I would if they were posting about wanting religion banned.

What? I'm not sure what North Korea has to do with it.

Boredatworkalways · 13/09/2022 19:41

He’s awful. His biggest sin is to make it impossible to vote for an environmentally aware party. I used to vote Green but can’t anymore due to the ridiculous socialist policies, the support of independence (after which if the welfare state exists at all it will be much reduced) and due to the ridiculous way they jump on any ludicrous notion. Every child ought to fill in a questionnaire about anal sex? Trans women are women? The universal basic income idea? Absolutely batshit!

leepinglizards · 14/09/2022 06:40

He's an absolute walloper.

Makes me cringe myself inside out when I see him.

soupmaker · 14/09/2022 06:51

I'm sad that the Queen died. But I'd abolish the monarchy. Harvie was entirely justified in what he said. The absolute circus that has ensued following the Queen's death is ridiculous.
