I have a day in Edinburgh arranged for the 19th. Does anyone have any idea if most things will be closed at all?
I am going on the train from another part of Scotland. Tickets are booked but I'm wondering if I should try to change the day

I would think it would be fine. Most things are open on public holidays usually.

mapleleavesreturn · 11/09/2022 20:58

As long as the train runs - surely they'll tell you if they cancel that? Otherwise it should be like any other bank holiday, assume things were open the jubilee one

I would assume various things might be closed tbh. The zoo, for example, won't be open. Depending on what your plans are I would change the date.

emmathedilemma · 12/09/2022 07:31

what were you planning to do? Some of the attractions are currently closed due to all the ceremonial stuff that’s going on and some have announced they are closed until after the mourning period. I haven’t seen anything specifically relating to Monday yet, but the bank holiday was only announced on Saturday afternoon so a lot of “office staff” probably won’t have been in work since for plans to be made.

Notplayingball · 12/09/2022 07:49

I would carry on with life as normal in Scotland. It's London that will be more the issue.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/09/2022 07:54

I would change the day if you can. I imagine many things will be closed.

Doidontimmm · 12/09/2022 07:56

I live here, what were you planning on doing? There are no roads etc closed as far as I know and trains are running.

The OP plans to visit the day of the funeral when it is a Bank holiday not today.

Doidontimmm · 12/09/2022 08:51

I know :)

I was planning a wander round, lunch, perhaps a bit of shopping. Might go to the vaults or the real Mary Kings Close

I think a lot of tourist attractions will be closed to be honest. Shops will be fine though. If there's anything you specifically really want to do then check with the venue, but I don't think the city will be 'closed'.

Then again, I said the same thing when Diana died and the city was a ghost town...

Doidontimmm · 12/09/2022 09:12

Looks like Mary Kings Close is shut so I figure tourist attractions will all be similar, however shops etc will be open.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/09/2022 09:13

I would call the venues you want to visit and check. Also book lunch somewhere just in case a lot of places are shut.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/09/2022 09:14

I still think you should come on a different day.

Notplayingball · 12/09/2022 14:10

Do Mary Kings Close another time, but I would think some shops and cafes will still open. Life has to go on.

mapleleavesreturn · 12/09/2022 21:15

I don't know anymore either I thought you'd be fine but a lot of shops have announced closing Mon 19.

cicatrix1 · 16/09/2022 20:26

Definitely change your day op. lots of super markets and big retail shops will be closing ie marks, johnlews ect.
