Linked smoke alarm advice please...

I have realised my smoke alarms are possibly no longer adequate.

I live in a 4 story house (basement, ground, 1st, attic floors)

Do I need a smoke alarm for each landing / hallway - ie 4,
& a Separate smoke alarm for living room & heat one for kitchen ie 6?

I'm on income support as a Carer - anyone advise where I can obtain legally compliant alarms which don't need wiring in (old house... & thick walls) ???

This page tells you what you need www.gov.scot/publications/fire-and-smoke-alarms-in-scottish-homes/

We got ours from here www.alert4less.com/product-page/wireless-smoke-heat-co-alarm-kit-4

Very easy to set up, but beware very very loud! My cats were a bit traumatised!

Thanks @Plump82
Gosh - nearly £200...
That's a lot to find.
also I worry that they'd not work through our walls (sandstone, thick, full of salts) which screws up our simliar internet boosters a treat.

It's expensive isn't it. We saved up for a couple of months. We live in an old house with thick walls too and they do seem to work. There might be cheaper out there but nothing I could find.

We decided not to bother with these until we sell the house.
We have working non linked smoke alarms and a CO alarm in the meantime.

I just bought 4 smoke and 1 heat alarm and cost £116. Cheapest I could find but I still think what a rip off! I would have thought you could get such things for about £10 each. I think the scottish gov should have made a deal with a manufacturer to sell them cheaper - sure they'd still be turning a decent profit. Companies must be making a killing selling these things for over £20 each.

emmathedilemma · 18/08/2022 16:42

Same as @Sandinyourshoes I’ve not bothered. I already have 2 smoke alarms that are wired into the mains and a carbon monoxide detector. Our existing alarms are so loud you can hear the neighbours from several doors down so I don’t think there’s any risk that someone wouldn’t hear it from the other side of the flat! The cynic in me also suspected they would go down in price once the initial deadline for installing them had passed ;)

Soothmoother · 19/08/2022 20:18

We have them. Our whole house, with 2 heat detectors and 2 carbon monoxide detectors cost about £280 if i remember correctly. We already had loads, being an ex b&b buy its apparently a legal requirement which can void house insurance if you don't get it done.

dementedpixie · 19/08/2022 20:21

I havent done ours yet. Already have 2 interlinked alarms that were here when we moved in plus a CO alarm near the boiler.
