Looking for a traditional hotel package, with reasonable value rooms for people to stay over. I know that 'good value' is pretty much out of the window but mostly interested in good food and lots of it.

One mildly OTT requirement is a separate lounge space/ reception area where my elderly granny and a few others could sit and chat. She's not the type to be up doing the slosh Grin

1599 in st Vincent street is very nice as it a Boclair House.

Nixbox · 19/07/2022 22:29

Oran Mor used to have a lift, maybe it doesn’t go to all floors. Worth giving them a call to check.
You can get married at Glasgow Uni - think one of you has to have been a student or staff member though. The cloisters are amazing for photos.

Savoy Park Hotel Ayr

MonsterChopz · 19/07/2022 22:36

I was at a lovely wedding in the Strathaven Hotel and there was a separate area that you could sit in where it was a bit quieter. Dalmeny in Barrhead has a similar set up as does Torrance hotel in East Kilbride.

HouseofGods · 19/07/2022 22:36

Dalmeny Park, Barrhead. Grounds are lovely too.
Oran mor was gorgeous but I think you're right on the stairs. Loads of them and we even had to go up a set from the reception area to go to the toilet.
Lochside (maybe a bit further out though).

Crauferland Castle near Fenwick

Cottiers is lovely in the west end. It’s an old church and absolutely gorgeous done job.

Jasharps · 19/07/2022 23:14

The Gailes in Irvine. Opportunities for beach photos and they have a gazebo. A new spa and the conservatory and honeymoon apartment is to die for.

Rooms are reasonable and nice for guests.

The wedding space is separate from main hotel which I really like. Separate bar space from reception room and another separate lounge that we used for quiet space for kids and people wanting to chat.

Food is flexible.

@LunchPoems
I agree re:Glenbervie, the last time I was there it was in a bloody marquee and it's a pain in the arse to get to.

bigyellowcandle · 19/07/2022 23:45

Thanks everyone. Some of them are just too far away, but they all look lovely.

Going to wait for replies from, House for an Art Lover, the Grosvener and Grand Central.

I went to a lovely wedding at house for an art lover and it wasn’t remotely fussy food - I think I had some smoked salmon to start, then some chicken with potatoes and then lemon posset - it was lovely and simple.

RJnomore1 · 19/07/2022 23:59

The Gailes is a bit new build and shit. The savoy park is bog standard. I’d go for dinner but not consider either for a wedding.

Gailes is good for conferences.

RJnomore1 · 20/07/2022 00:00

Brig a doon has a million stairs they usher you up and didn’t for ceremony:photos/bar/setting up dinner

ElizaB22 · 20/07/2022 22:03

For how many?

Haudyourwheesht · 20/07/2022 22:50

The Cruin is just amazing.
House for an Art Lover is in the city though and really nice.

Haudyourwheesht · 20/07/2022 22:53

The Sherbrooke Castle is also very nice and I think they tick all the boxes on accessibility despite outward appearances.

Glitterkitten24 · 20/07/2022 23:01

Gleddoch House, in Langbank, overlooking the Clyde….beautiful!

Dinoteeth · 21/07/2022 07:58

The Strathaven Hotel has a separate lounge area. And decent parking.

No comment on how good it is, only been to one wedding there a few years ago and it seemed nice enough. But it is really easy to get to, literally seconds from the motorway junction, 25 minutes from Glasgow by car or train. Station a fair walk in wedding clothes but two minutes taxi drive.

bcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyza · 21/07/2022 08:18

We had ours at Oran mor, am sure there a lift to get to the hall.

traintraveller · 21/07/2022 12:12

Might be closer to 40 minutes but inglewood house in Alloa is lovely

LunchPoems · 21/07/2022 13:09

What about Pollok House?

HurlyBurlyyy · 02/08/2022 15:25

Oran Mor does have disabled access! And their wedding planner is great so worth considering x
