Cheapest supermarket for school uniforms??

I'm looking for the cheapest supermarket/place for school uniforms please, if anyone knows, or are they all the same pretty much?

I haven't applied for the free uniform grant yet for my youngest (will do tonight), and my eldest I don't get it paid in until after she actually starts term (S6).

I'm wanting to be organised this year, but obviously things are really tight at the moment with the gas and electric and food, so I'll be using my meagre savings and replacing when the grants come through.

It was always Asda back when Dd was at Primary school.

mummyh2016 · 08/07/2022 18:39

Aldi I think have the uniforms in.

dontcallmelen · 08/07/2022 18:40

Alidi & lidl normally very reasonable, might be useful to compare those with Asda & Tesco prices

user1832 · 08/07/2022 18:42

Thanks I usually shop at Asda, will take a look online for prices. There's an Aldi but it's an hour walk, will maybe take a walk over tomorrow though to check that out cause I bet they sell out fast.

Eldest will probably have to get women's size 8 trousers, not sure if they do them for 16 year olds!!

Argos/Sainsbury tu clothes is doing 20% off on all school uniforms with code TUKIDS20 and its until 11th. I always buy school shoes/shirts/skirts and quality is very good.Smile

Is it worth comparing Matalan too?

ShetlandPony1 · 08/07/2022 21:46

You can order online at Aldi. They are doing a complete uniform for £5 - www.aldi.co.uk/specialbuys/about-our-specialbuys/back-to-school?text=Back%20to%20school

The only thing I would say is you do pay for quality. I've sold 2 of my DD pinafores on vinted last week for £4. They were from M+S and cost around £10 brand new so really they've cost me £6. They've been worn all year but wash well and still look brand new. Yet I've had uniform from Asda that within a couple of months had worn and needed replacing.

Sainsburys have 20% off kids clothes this week. I got a full weeks worth of uniform for about £35. Their clothes wash well and last.

Mrsfussypants1 · 09/07/2022 10:58

My local aldi had uniform in yesterday. But like others have said if you can pay a little more the quality is much better. Sainsburys offer is really good for value and quality and they wash and last really well, so well we've donated it this year. Again the same with asda. Both scored well in polls for best school uniform, asdas came out as best budget uniform.

Have you checked if your schools have a uniform bank? Also if you have access to a local Facebook free/for sale page, you may be able to pick stuff up free or cheap.

Remember you only need to buy new if they need it, the don't ned to have everything new every year. Sorry if that seems obvious, but people get caught up in children needing a full ne wardrobe, bag, pencil case etc but often have stuff from the previous year that is still fine.

greywinds · 09/07/2022 19:49

Was just coming on to say what binbandit said, second hand uniform much better for environment and if they have something new for the first day nobody notices the rest. Also agree the M&S and Sainsburys uniforms washed well and were in good condition to hand on.

Lidl uniform gets out of stocked fast when it comes in so you might want to ask when they are getting it in.
