Hi! We are a family of four with two older 'kids' aged 19 and 25 who are coming with us - plus two dogs. We like cycling too - road and mountain!
After recommendations for good (preferably quiet) beaches near to Kirkcudbright/Rascarrel areas, and any other pubs, restaurants etc., recommendations! Thanks 😁

Do you know the area? It’s not exactly busy even at the height of the season dogs would be allowed on all beaches, I can’t think of any that don’t and the tide goes out a very long way exposing lots of quiet little beaches.
Rascarel is quite long beach mainly stones not easy to walk on in places, Brighouse Bay is lovely possibly busier than others although not exactly Brighton Brach maybe 70 people on it as opposed to 4 on most of the other if, and it’s a big if we’ve not had good weather this year, if the weather is good, theres a lovely walk around the headland the route is clearly laid out on a board in the car park it’s hard to go wrong. Mute Hill is also lovely again walk round the headland following the sign posts, other lovely beaches are Red Haven and Tor Point ask in Auchencairn shop where to park they also do food. A bit further Kipford to Rockcliffe is a nice walk and Sandyhills to Portling Bay along the bottom of the cliffs and back over top of cliff tide has to be going out. Cycling the 7 Staines at Dalbeattie I believe for mountain bikes. All roads are very quiet once your away from A roads.

The Cafe at Designs in Castle Douglas does a pretty reasonable lunch and Moores fish and chips in Castle Douglas is good you can order it in line eat it by the Loch just near by, neighbours regularly eat in the Kings Arms I’m Castle Douglas and say it’s not bad at all And tell me the Auld Aliance Cafe in Kirkcudbright is good as is the Belfry I’ve never eaten in either. At Gatehouse of Fleet The Galloway Lodge isn’t bad serving hot meals and cold. Further afield we had a really nice lunch in Readinglasses.
Port Patrick is quite a drive but worth going too IMO.
Enjoy the peace and quiet and stunning scenery. You will need to bring wet weather clothing but probably not an umbrella it will get blown inside out!!

If you want to explore a bit further afield Cairnsmore of Carsphairn is stunning. And the teashop in the village has a wonderful menu to eat in or take out. Seats inside and outside the back with fabulous views. Clachan Inn at St John's Town of Dalry is another great place to eat.
