NHS 5% increase

Interested to hear options on the proposed 5% increase to the agenda for change pay scale. Unison are recommending that it is rejected. Can't see the government offering anything much higher to be honest.

Bumping this thread in light of the new pay offer. Any thoughts of the flat pay rise of £2,205 across all bands? I’m tempted to vote for it as it is a 10% rise for me, but don’t know if I’m doing my higher paid colleagues a disservice here. Very conflicted

SirChenjins · 01/11/2022 19:14

I’m happy with that. I’m on a higher band and think it’s a reasonable offer, and it seems ok for staff on lower bands. Everyone has a different opinion though.

cakelover75 · 01/11/2022 21:27

I’ll be worse off with this offer than the original 5% offer. I just wish it could be agreed asap though 😩

Oh that’s a shame- that’s a bit of a kick in the teeth for you. This is why I’m conflicted! Although it would help me out right now with my energy bills.

I don't feel like it's enough. However I won't strike and risk patients safety. Our trust sent out an email begging us to take extra shifts and do extra if we can due to rising admissions and covid cases. I'm 6 days this week and 6 next. I no longer do 12 hour shifts and am community based. But I will likely do bank on wards during my 2 week annual leave.

I burnt out last year but have fought back from that.

This is nice of you but you don't owe loyalty to the NHS it's a shame that NHS doesn't hold the same mercy for it's workers.

Undervaluedandsad · 02/11/2022 06:36

There will be very little between top of band 4 and bottom of band 5, similarly top of band 6 and bottom of band 7. Doesn’t feel fair to new graduates to have completed a 4 year degree and earn only marginally more than a band 4. Doesn’t help recruitment at band 7, particularly team lead level, which we are also struggling to fill.
I have voted against. I think there will be long term consequences.

Ripples2 · 02/11/2022 06:53

I agree with that and don’t think it’s fair that a newly qualified nurse is on pennies more per hour than the top of band 4. I’ve been thinking about this and I might vote to reject. It’s divide and conquer. As a band 3 I’m concerned that we will ultimately end up with a worse offer for the lower grades, but in the interest of solidarity we need to stand together. I asked the unison rep yesterday for their stance and she said they don’t have one so that was helpful…

ProseccoOnIce · 02/11/2022 13:05

I'm another who would be better on 5% than the across-the-board uplift - guessing that bands below 7 will benefit & those 7 & above won't.

We're being balloted for strike action; I'm not sure how to vote.

Just bumping this thread in light of the latest pay offer. I’m interested in how soon they plan to reduce the working week from 37.5 hours to 36.

caringcarer · 27/11/2022 19:51

@Tiredoftiers, new teachers outside of London have been offered 8.9 percent. This will take starting pay of a Teacher to £28k. Experienced Teachers who been taught for 5 years were only offered 5 percent. Same as nurses.

caringcarer · 27/11/2022 19:53

Civil servants offered less than Nurses and Teachers again.

Is this on the cards? I hadn't heard anything about this.
But lots of other public sector workers have their full time hours less than 37.5. That does affect the hourly rate

cakelover75 · 27/11/2022 20:06

If you look at the bottom of this update it’s mentioned; www.gov.scot/news/nhs-staff-offered-record-high-pay-rise/

having just read it again, it’s a review of the working hours, not a commitment to do it.

TrixJax · 27/11/2022 20:16

Oh I'd missed that bit about review of working hours. Thanks @cakelover75

Tiredoftiers · 27/11/2022 21:25

There’s also a woolly statement about review of band 5 job descriptions.

Invisimamma · 12/12/2022 21:24

Pleased they seem to have finally reached a pay settlement and avoided strikes.

Does anyone know when the increase is likely to reach staff? And will it be back dated? This extra money will really make all the difference to our household.

Auntieobem · 12/12/2022 21:27

It will be backdated to April, won't be in pay until January at earliest, maybe Feb.

Sparklybutold · 12/12/2022 21:36

Anyone know of any pay rise for support or care workers?

Invisimamma · 12/12/2022 21:41

Depends who they are employed by NHS, private agency or local authority? Really it's up to their unions to advocate for them and negotiate with the employers. I agree they also deserve it though.

caringcarer · 13/12/2022 11:16

I'm a Foster Carer and I got 4.5 percent and a £150 bonus (not sure why as none of us have ever had one before). It does not meet cost of living but it is similar to average pay deal. I am reasonably happy. Foster son has been given CoL food vouchers for £20 in November now £50 in December. Not sure why as he does not have to pay for food etc. I would rather they give these vouchers to care leavers who have to buy their own food from £61 per week along with gas, electric and water rates. I have told SW this.
