moving from city life to a rural village (Killearn, Balfron?)

Hello all,
I’m looking for some advice from anyone who lives in Balfron/Killearn or surrounding areas. We are looking to relocate to a more rural, village lifestyle. We love Killearn & Balfron and are now looking at homes for sale here.

We have a teenager and I’m just wondering what young adults do at weekends/holidays? I know it’s close to Milngavie, is this where they hang out or do they tend to stay in local villages. In terms of shopping/cinema do they tend to travel to Stirling or Glasgow?

We are really keen to be part of a community where my children can feel connected and have a sense of belonging. The rural aspect is a real positive for us but maybe I’m being naive and young people spend all their time travelling to local towns/cities?

I just want to make sure I’m making the right decision for my kids . Any advice would be much appreciated ☺️

Have a friend who lives in Killearn - seems like a nice community.

I grew up in a rural village on the west coast and hated it. I feel like a lot of time was spent travelling to civilisation, for example, when I was working part time when I was 16 and 17. I was about 30 minutes from the nearest town.

Killearn is a lovely community with its own primary school and the nearest high school is in Balfron. There is no station, children are bussed from Killearn to Balfron for school.

This is the bus into Milngavie or Glasgow from Killearn, which also runs the opposite direction into Stirling. www.firstbus.co.uk/south-east-and-central-scotland/routes-and-maps/express-services/service-x10-x10a

It's about an hour on the bus all the way into Glasgow city centre, about 40 minutes to Milngavie for the train.

I know lots of people in Killearn and it's a very family focused community. Lots of scouts, guides, outdoorsy things, sports clubs, drama groups etc. It is however a SMALL village with a Co-Op in terms of shopping and that's about it. Teenagers wanting to shop for clothes would have to travel to Stirling or Glasgow, same for cinema, bowling, swimming pool etc etc etc. It really depends what you are looking for.
