What do people think/hope Scot Gov should be doing about the train shambles?

You'd think the bus companies would be thinking waayhaay more business for us and promoting their services but i dont see that happening either.

Rainbowshit · 24/05/2022 10:10

I can see a rise in the kind of dodgy unregistered taxi drivers you get in London, putting particularly females lives at risk.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 24/05/2022 10:15

We basically can't get in or out of our town after around 8 without taking the car.
It's fine for me, I don't work or drink when I go out so I can drive, but aren't we supposed to be using our cars less?
Not only that but petrol prices and parking.
I'm at the Hydro on Sunday, its £11 to park, ouch.

WouldBeGood · 24/05/2022 10:45

I am going to Edinburgh on Saturday for a pre booked event, and it will cost £30 to park for a few hours!!

And next year I won’t be allowed to drive my car in Glasgow.

there needs to be a plan!

That's a good point actually. People won't be able to drive in either.

WouldBeGood · 24/05/2022 10:55

Manchester has paused the LEZ because of outcry from city businesses. So they might happen here?

OP posts:
ssd · 24/05/2022 10:55

@WouldBeGood , can't you take the tram?

WouldBeGood · 24/05/2022 10:59

I’d need to drive somewhere suitable and park and find a tram @ssd I’m going to look at buses.

i was meant to be going for drinks with my friend after but will need to drive one way or the other. I know it’s not the same as problems getting to work though. I’d cancel if she hadn’t booked and paid tbh

Are you near ingleston

WouldBeGood · 24/05/2022 11:16

I’m about an hour and a half from Edinburgh. Is that a park and ride @ssd?

Railing about the Low Emission Zone - I have heard rumblings about this but not detail. London appear to be doing similar.

But you can navigate to a special London website, stick in your registration number and it tells you if your car is compliant or not. Simple. For the Glasgow zone you are directed to a council webpage which blethers on about Euro 6 standards, then redirects you to another page which just gives the same general information, then directs you to the Vehicle Certification Agency website which tells you the road tax group of your car and what the CO2 emissions are, but doesn't give any information which helps you match up with whether or not you'll be allowed to drive into Glasgow, or not.

Still none the wiser.

Babdoc · 24/05/2022 11:22

WouldBeGood, if you are north of Edinburgh, there’s a huge park and ride at Ferrytoll, just before you get to the Queensferry crossing. Regular buses in to the city centre, serving the St Andrews bus station.

Stroopwaffels · 24/05/2022 11:35

@WouldBeGood the park and ride at Straiton / Ikea is pretty good. 47 or X37 buses into town up Newington Road if that's the side of town you're going to. tap in and out of buses with your debit/card like in London.

ssd · 24/05/2022 11:44

Yes @WouldBeGood , the park and ride at ingleston is great. I loved my tram ride too but I'm easily pleased 😂

ssd · 24/05/2022 11:45

@WouldBeGood or is it worth you getting a cheap hotel for the night so you can have a drink and a relaxing night? And get the train home the next morning

WouldBeGood · 24/05/2022 11:46

Thanks all!

Ingliston would be the best, though still sadly no post event carousing. But I’ve never been on a Edinburgh team @ssd, so yes, that’s exciting! 😃

Just looking at the LEZ info which I admit I ahve ignored completely until now. We frequently visit and stay at the HIE at the top of Renfield st and park in Concert hall carpark - won't be doing that anymore. I also have friends who regularly come up to the city from Ayrshire and who park at Concert hall - so they won't be doing that either. Lots of lost business

Stroopwaffels · 24/05/2022 11:54

That's it, city centre businesses have been hammered with the pandemic restrictions and this is going to hit them even more. The restaurants in Finnieston must be rubbing their hands together in glee. And the people running the pantomime at the Armadillo, given that the Kings, Theatre Royal, Concert Hall and Pavillion are all within their zone. And Braehead/Silverburn - there's no way i'm going into town on a really unreliable bus/train when I can be at Braehead in the car in 20 minutes.

WouldBeGood · 24/05/2022 12:30

Yep. I go up monthly with ds for haircut, lunch, guitar browsing. Not any more.

Its been in the news that Buchanan Galleries is to be flattened and turned into flats. That's even less shops in town. I dont understand it.

Stroopwaffels · 24/05/2022 14:51

Gosh, Buchanan Galleries has only been there 10 minutes. It was under construction all the time I was a student. Oh wait... that was 30 years ago. But still.

Another recommendation for ingliston @WouldBeGood
Very easy if you're coming from the west
