Hi, I was wondering if I can have some advice? We are looking to move to Scotland soon and have been spending a lot of time online, trying to find a place to rent, but am finding it near impossible. I have looked on Rightmove, zoopla, local estate agents websites, etc.

I found a place that we felt would be perfect for us, sent a message to the agent, but received no reply.

My question really is, am I missing something? The places seem to dissappear as soon as they appear!

Is there a better way to go about it? Do landlords rent out privately? The only places I can see, seems to be through agents.

It is just my husband and I, both mid 40's working full time, children are adult and no longer living at home. But we would need a 3 bed for them to visit us.

All advice welcome

You'll not get much in Edinburgh for £1,200 per calendar month. I like Broughty Ferry and Newport on Tay near Dundee.

What about this OP? A flat but does have an allocated parking space in an underground car park.

The town of Linlithgow is on a loch and good middle location for rail or road commute to Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Good areas - everyone will have a different view. I would prioritise education for the kids, but others value different things. Linlithgow academy is good and Linlithgow bridge primary had a good reputation. Edinburgh - do a search on Scotsnet and you'll find loads on schools, particularly where to avoid.
Glasgow- I know the south side- east Renfrewshire schools Mearns Castle, Williamwood , st Ninians all VG , also other side Glasgow Bearsden. You'd be looking for feeder primary schools with young kids. Others will know what's good elsewhere.

Sorry doh misread. No children so world's your oyster. Too much multi tasking! Apologies.
Lots of bikers in Perthshire!

Thanks guys, my most important worry is places to avoid, looking at a lovely house approx 2.5mile from Arbroath, any opinions?

Montrose would be the cheapest of those places I think. I found this one: housesforsaletorent.co.uk/property/to-rent/3-bedroom-detached-house-to-rent-in-renny-crescent-montrose-angus-dd10/1705681/

I just helped someone select rental viewings in SW England recently and walking round the streets on street view on Google Maps proved accurate in the choices they made to view in real life.

Thanks guys
