Private health care appointment for under 1

I am awaiting an ultrasound for my baby due to a lump on forehead that is growing bigger. The waiting list is arround 4 months and I am trying to get a private scan to speed things up. (I am aware this is a privilege and am aware there will be mixed views but I am quite worried and would like to avoid debate about this).
Ideally would be Forth valley/ west of Scotland but would go further afield. Nuffield cannot do as they have no pediatric service. Does anyone know of a private health service that does? Thank you.

Meant to say have enquired with GP but there is no scope to prioritise as there is no indication of pain or impact on development.

No experience, this is just from googling: www.circlehealthgroup.co.uk/hospitals/ross-hall-hospital/paediatrics

I took my daughter for a private mri. She had severe migraines and had missed a month of school and was crying in such pain which let to three visits to GP and two to A&E. Still the appointment was four months away. I had to get the GP to refer us though - I couldn't just call a private doctor up myself. I had to push hard as at first they referred us to a place that wouldn't see children, then a doctor who was a specialist in gastric intestinal issues... in the end I got mad and told the GP it was their job to get me referred to a private doctor who was actually able to see us. Finally they found one (how hard was it? Had to travel over 70 miles though). Cost was £800. Get your GP to do their job and refer you.

It’s really only London for FULLY private paediatrics, I’ve had an incident in the past with my then 8 week old. Private care accessibility is awful in Scotland. The only way to see a paediatrician immediately in is to turn up at an a&e at a hospital that you know has a childrens ward and PERSIST.
for children of that age we couldn’t locate anyone privately in Scotland so…London.

There is Spire Edinburgh hospitals - they may need a GP referral - if you ask the admin they will tell you where the referral should get sent. Such a worry, good luck

@tuliplover you are so unreasonable.

It is not your NHS GPs job to find a private paediatrician for you. In fact it isn't even their job to refer to one you find. Referring for private care is non-NHS work and they don't have to do it.

There is virtually no private paediatric practice in Scotland there just isn't the demand (and if you do do it you meet awful entitled people).

beechhues · 26/05/2022 14:07

Or perhaps desperate people as well as entitled - have you watched a child have a severe migraine? It's awful.

Plenty of people scraping together money for private support for kids with mh issues too.

Hope the op has managed to get help.

It's not a lack of demand, more like a lack of supply. I too hope the OP has found a solution. Nothing wrong with doing your best for your children.

aquamarine1 · 30/05/2022 09:15

@Jofergo yes people do feel entitled to seek out the best care for their child. The waiting lists in Scotland are nothing short of disgraceful. Hope you get a decent paed op and with minimal hassle.

youdroppedthis · 30/05/2022 10:03

How can anyone have an issue with someone not using the NHS? Thus freeing the resources up for those who need it?

Jofergo · 30/05/2022 10:59

@youdroppedthis i don’t have an issue with people seeking private healthcare.

I have a huge issue with @tuliplover ’s post “in the end I got mad at the GP and told them it was their job to get us referred to a private doctor”.

the tone of this is horrible. What respect is there is that doctor-patient relationship?
it is also factually incorrect NHS GPS have precisely ZERO responsibility to locate a private doctor for their NHS patients. Because, erm, they work for the NHS.

Doctors are under precisely zero responsibility to provide private services. Have a think about why there is so little provision in Scotland? If it was a good , well remunerated gig surely people would be falling over themselves to do it? But they aren’t. That tells you something.

CAMHS is a total disaster throughout the UK.

The power to sort this lies at the ballot box. People need to start voting for parties that prioritise the NHS and the NHS needs to start treating it’s staff a whole lot better. People were leaving pre-covid now it’s an absolute landslide of resignations.

I sympathise with your problem but it is NOT your GP's job to refer you to private health care providers.
