Car insurance recommendation?

hi there, time to renew my car insurance but also plan to relocate from London to Scotland this May/June. Is there any consideration I need to pay heed to in picking up an insurance policy? should I pick a company that is more Scotland based? It is predicted that I need to make changes to the address two months after taking this policy, so must pick one that offers amendment free of charge, and with good review from local. any recommendation for such? and what kind of breakdown cover you will pick?

seemingly am too fresh to the new environment, exciting yet nervous. with no friend in Scotland, so want to get as much information as possible. thanks a lot.😊

Just compare on the various sites and pick the most suitable/cheapest. If you go on money saving expert website it goes through the process to get the best deal.

Most now allow you to make free/cheaper amendments to your policy by doing it yourself on-line.

We have Admiral multi car and have no complaints.

Most insurers are UK wide.

checking the sites that two weeks and found prices up just within days. wonder if the more I check the higher the price, just like air tickets.... 🥲

Apparently the sweet spot is something like about 17 days to renewal. It's definitely worth shopping around and also might be worth phoning the ones that are coming in cheapest and asking them if they can do any better. When i did comparison sites for individual cars, the cheapest I could get for my own car was around £400, however i managed to get my renewal multi car for for £650 for all 3 cars including 2 young drivers on 2 of them.

It is worth doing the Martin Lewis comparison too.

@BinBandit so sad I missed the sweet spot...🥲 I need to mark in my diary one month before the expiry, next year

I had picked Hastings Direct yesterday but found out it charged me £20 for change of address, also no real person to handle call except online and apps. I picked it because it offers NCD protection, but now wondering does it worth in my case? I just earned 1 year NCD....

Originally intended to go for Admiral as quite a no of good reviews in Mumsnet, but the system seem down that few days and I just couldn't enter and get a quote.

currently with Tesco Bank and quite impressed with their system, change of address free of charge and they refunded me the difference right away, wow😀. but they don't offer NCD protection until I earn 4 years. Any thoughts and sharing on that NCD protection? does it worth it?

thx a lot lovely mumsnet community!

forgot to add, I intend to call Hastings Direct to cancel my policy today as I prefer a system that can talk to real person on top of online option, also Quidco seem lost track of my record.

you can't get NCD protection under 4 years anywhere in my experience. Best just not to have an accident! Grin Admiral do have a call centre. If you time it right then it's in Wales and I've found them great.

If you want to see what difference is, you could do a quote with different years of NCD to see how much the price of the policy changes? I wanted to add the protection onto my sons' car since he has 4 years now and the cost was to be £29.99 but when I was on the phone with them (I'd called about something else) I asked if there was anything they could do with my renewal quote and also add this on, they ended up giving it for free and also £40 discount on top. You might find you can get a better deal with your new address also as I think it will be less risk up here compared to London.

beware of Hastings!
i called today to cancel my policy, as written no fees if cancel within 14 days of cooling off period, and fact that i called less than 24 hours. They said will refund but need to withhold £20 as admin fees! Thats was not written in their fees schedule! I asked them to waive it and after few mins of seeking manager ‘s approval the answer was no! I said alright then, please show me where the t&c was and demanded explanation on what reasonable ground they can substantiate this withholding? Another few mins waiting and after another approval from the manager they eventually agreed to refund the whole money to me but saying this was by discretion!

No Hastings!
